OT: Mail Delivery question

Sometimes I buy stuff off of ebay that is sent by registered or certified mail which annoys me to no end because I have to go to the post office to pick it up. The part I don't get is I am home all day and when I check the mailbox this little card is in there that says sorry you weren't home and then you got to wait until the next day to pick it up. Our route is semi-rural, the mailbox is at the end of the driveway. It is not that far to drive or walk up to the house and ring the door bell, it's 200 ft at most. Before I call the postmaster and complain is the mailman suppose to try and deliver the letter or package or do they just usually leave the slip in the mailbox for you to go pickup?

I don't know how it is done elsewhere, but my mail carrier brings certified letters and packages to our back door for delivery. And I live on top of a hill - it's about a half block from the mailbox to the back door. Sandy

YES! I live in the city not far from the road at all and they get rushed or are lazy I don't know which, but like you I'm home for deliveries. I complained it stopped.

Thanks for your responses. I am going now to pick up $10 worth of diecuts and to waste $2 worth of gas. I am going to talk to someone there and find out why I am getting a sorry to have missed you card when I was home again and no one even rang the bell.

You could always call or use

to have them redeliver and then lie in wait and ask him/her why she did what she/he did.

I did. Make them spend the gas money. You can always call the post office and talk to the post master general.

Our mail lady is very good - we live in an upstairs apartment but when there's a parcel she brings it right on up to us (unless she happens to run into me downstairs, when she hands it to me on the spot)... she's a very nice lady and she adores cats, so Tessica's DELIGHTED to see her coming to the door because she knows she'll get a cuddle and lots of praise :) When she's not running our route the substitute guy isn't nearly as helpful - he's been known to leave the orange card in the mailbox rather than walk upstairs to our door.

That bugs the heck out of me too. In my area we have a central mailbox thing where the lettercarrier drives there and puts everyones mail into the appropriate slot then we take our mail key and open our box to get mail. There are larger boxes at the bottom for parcels when they don't fit in there the carrier drives to our house(about 50 yards or less from the general mailbox) and leaves a sorry I missed you card. 99.9% of the time I'm home!!! If she has to drive to deliver the card, ring the darn bell and give me my pkg!!! Barb
