OT: The dog tried to eat the check

Just had to share a funny, and knowing the furbaby lovers/owners in here, I knew you would understand.

My sister sent me a check which I got yesterday evening. I simply left it on the table at the time, since we were on the way out the door. Went to DS's sleep study, came home this morning, and we all left again. Got back before 11:00 this morning, and here's my sister's check in 2 or 3 pieces! The dog left the check alone during the night, but just had to get it today.

I'm glad it was a check, and not cash or a money order. I called my sister and said "The dog tried to eat your check." Her reply was "'Scuse me?". She's a 3rd grade teacher. I felt like I was a student telling the teacher that the dog ate my homework. Needless to say, we're calling this check voided and she's sending a new one.

As soon as possible, we're going to get Nikkie (DH's 1 yr old, 50lb bassett) a crate. I think she just gets bored when she's left alone for very long. It's like having 2 ADHD children in the house....DD and the dog! LOL

I started shutting my poodle in my craft room. There is a vinyl floor for easy clean up and as long as my stickles is put away she doesn't care about anything else. I turn on the TV and she has her beanbag chair in there to lay on. When left with the whole house it was alway something new she'd get into. The trash... the pantry... the kids' rooms and tear something up. So far so good with just one room.

Shutting her in a room would be impossible, unless there was absolutely nothing in there..not even carpet. LOL She eats (or will try to eat) anything that's not nailed down. DH said that "nothing's sacred" to a bassett, and she definately shows that! LOL I've rescued dirty socks, dirty underwear, various toys (DD's Barbie lost her cell phone to the walking garbage disposal), pencils, pens, and who knows what else from Nikkie's mouth. Then there's the items she's destroyed....2 of my SU Aqua Painters, 1 of my big SU punches, an extra SU stamp box (thankfully I wasn't using it for stamps!), pencils, pens, tampons (new, not used), a couple rolls of toilet paper, a partial roll of paper towels, 2 pairs of DH's dirty socks, junk mail, and again who knows what else.

But, I still love the goofy dog. She really can be a sweet heart, and she's fun to play with. She loves the kids, loves having neighborhood kids over. She wants so bad to be a lap dog, but a 50lb dog just isn't a lap dog. Try telling her that, though! LOL

Thank goodness my poodle stopped chewing things up at about 1 1/2 years old. Your list of chewed items sounded very similar to my house except she got my blue birkenstocks and I nearly turned her into a knitted cap!

I had a boxer/mastiff years ago. He weighed 98 pounds and wanted to be a lap dog too. He was tall enough to occasionally back up to me on the couch and just sit his hiney on my lap while his front paws stayed on the ground. It was so funny. He'd look back at me with eyes that said, "What!? I am a lap dog." LOL Aren't our furbabies so much fun.
