OT: The good, the bad and the ugly!

To keep it short, the good is that I went to Orlando to find my DS an apartment and I found one that met his needs.

The bad is that I stayed at a chain hotel and they had bugs.

The ugly is me with an allergic reaction to the 60+ bites I got while sleeping! So beware, bedbugs have made a comeback and I'm sure you guys have never even considered the possibility that your hotel room might be infested. I know I didn't! And this wasn't a cheap hotel chain, more like one of the middle ones.

As a result I had to strip and clean before I came into the house, go to the doctor who put me on antibiotics, plus Benadryl and Pepcid. Since I'm dying from the itchiness when not asleep, and I even have bites on my face, I had to postpone my scrap group till next Monday. The last time I remember being this itchy is when I had the measles!

I've been pondering saying anything, but after reading up on the web, I felt it wise to warn you all especially if you are traveling with little ones. It would seem that the US like Canada was bed bug free until they banned DDT and now they have made a major comeback. So check your mattresses and headboards before you unpack!

Well back to bed with me since the combination of Benadryl and antibiotics have me walking around like a zombie!

How awful!!! Many get well wishes heading your way. I would have never even thought about bed bugs especially in a decent hotel. Yikes. You definitely should say something to the management of the hotel. I am sure they would want to know about the problem!

Many hugs!!!

Actually I did notify the hotel before leaving. They apologized a number of times, had the room shut down even housekeeping was told to stay out and they were going to call their bio-something company. They said that they would call me to let me know what actually bit me, bed bugs or fleas. I'm thinking bed bugs because of the pattern. If there were a flea infestation I would have more bites on my ankles/legs and fewer on my arms and face.

Oh and the hotel took off the charge for the second night. It doesn't begin to add up to the discomfort of having all those bites everywhere!

Oh my goodness MC! Makes me itchy just reading your post. I can't imagine. We may need to send you mittens to put on your hands so you don't scratch and make it worst. Hope you get better soon.

Oh MC, that is the pits!!

I read a online news thing abot it last summer and it does cross my mind with ALL th eplaces I stay and go. I even look at the head of the comforter on the bed. You may not think or know it, but they do not change them after each guest. I usaully turn mine around as I do not relish the thought of others who may have coughed, drooled or left other things on it! That is probably come to think of it why I get a bad headcold/sinus infection after every trip I go on.

Hope you are feelig better and quit scratching!!

Oh goodness MC! I do hope you're beginning to feel better. Hopefully the benadryl will take care of the bites soon so you can stop itching. I feel so sorry for you! DD and I both react strongly to misquito bites, and I know how just one or two of them make the two of us itchy, so I know you must be dieing of misery! Poor you! Hope you get better real soon.

Actually, Dave, with your allergies, you could very easily be allergic to dust mites. Unless the hotel/motel/etc has an allergen-free mattress and pillow covers, dust mites are in the bed. They won't bite, but they do cause allergies. They're one of the many things I'm allergic to.

Oh, no! :-o

Oh, man. Now *I'm* itching just thinking about it!! :-(

Sorry this happened! I'd heard about it on the news but I hadn't heard any first hand reports yet. Hope the bites clear up soon.

I never thought of that Deb, and THANKS Carolynn for clarifying what it is - ahahhhh!

I also have thought about the grunge in the trucks, that is one reason I clean the tar out o them even for one day trips. You wold not believe how nasty some drivers are in their trucks or leave them. Pig is not even a close description - uuuggghhh!

Gotta go get some anti-histamines and decongestants so I can try to get rest of this crud out!

It sounds like it's time to wave a lawyer at them... I hope you've got photos of the bites for evidence. It's not like they could pretend you were bitten any place else.
