OT: Up and Downs - Good News and....

Hello All -

After months and months of looking and many ups and downs I FINALLY have landed a job, in my career field!

I was so about ready to settle for almost anything!

So, I will be the new Catering Representative for the University of Washington - in other words I will be one of two people running most of the higher level events all accross campus. I will also get to supervise student wait staff.

And it was an up and down day - the morning of the day I got this offer, I got turned down from another job I really wanted, then offered a job as an Admin assistant at a place I had temped previously - and although I liked these folks, it would have been a long, pricey commute for not enough money. But, better than nothing, and I was ready to give up. And then, I had only interviewed with the UW the day before, in a bad mood, not my best interview experience. :) Anyway, when I got the call from the one place, I decided to call the UW to see if I even had a chance at all....and they told me they were going to offer me the job! Yeah!

Unfortunately, ups and downs aren't completely over - being at a university there are buearucratic things to deal with - one of them is that I will only be on at 50% unitl February - which means money is still super super tight, and even once I am on it won't be a high paying job - but a fun one with good benefits.

So - It's good news, but I am still a bit nervous about the whole thing....

Anyway - thank all of you for your prayers and good thoughts and friendship.

Jessica, sounds like you had to make a couple of tough decisions. Here's hoping you will like your new job, and that it will go to 100% after the first of the year. Money is important when considering a job but I have found out that if you make less but love your job your life is much richer. Congrats on the new job and I'll send positive thoughts your way for a smooth road as you start your new job.

Good for you. Working at a job you don't like just to survive is not a great way to be. I'm glad you found the perfect job - one you like and want. Even though the pay is not exactly what you want, loving your job keeps you happy and less stressful. Congratulations. Sandy

Jessica, I think the most important thing is that you do what you like to do. Even if you earn a lot of money, but absolutely HATE every second of your job, it's not worth it. Congratulations, and I hope it works out to be everything you hoped for :)

Way to go Jessica! I can see that just that one day was one heck of a roller coaster! Good for you for having the initiative to call back the University! Some people would not have and in the process kicked themselves for a fool when they called to offer the job after accepting the other one. I hope tha job is everything you want it to be and more!
