OT: What is it with me and knee issues???

Digit has been limping, and a week ago I took him to the vet. A new vet for us, highly recommended by Kenda. She's an enabler in all kinds of ways! LOL He went back today for a recheck. Turns out, Digit has "bilateral [something] disease". His knees are bad, but he's not quite a year old!! While Dr. B was checking and feelnig the left knee, the kneecap slipped off then popped back on. Digit almost bit Dr. B. So Dr. B checked out the right knee. The kneecap didn't slip, but Digit didn't like him touching that one, either...and he's limping on it. The disease could be a birth defect, or genetic. The good news is that he's not crying out in pain, he's eating/drinking, playing, getting better at running/scampering, etc. For right now, we're starting him on a liquid joint compound thingy that we can get at Sam's. The other options are meds from the vet, accupuncture, or surgery.

Great....add Digit to the list of living beings I know with knee issues...Kenda, MC, DH's aunt, anyone else want to be added to the list? Ugh!

I put my old doggie on those joint compounds I get it at Costco (so much cheaper than the vet and the same stuff). It was a miracle in the amount of pain it alleviated. She doesn't scream out in pain ever now. She scampers around like a puppy sometimes too. I wish equal success.

That's a comfort that it's worked on your furbaby. The vet takes the same stuff for his knees and suggested it before he mentioned any other meds, or any other options. He said I can find it at Sam's and even wrote it down for me.

Oh goodness.. I'm glad to hear he's happy.

Don't want to be added to the list :) I seen what my MIL went through when she got both knees done. Not something I want to do.

I can be added to the knee problem list .... unfortunately I was thrown through a car windscreen years ago (like many many years ago) and caught my knees under the dashboard on my way though (apparently). Can't say I remember that bit!! But both my knees are weak, and I find myself hobbling down the stairs one step at a time most mornings. I did take Glaucausamine (sp?) for a while. Would this wonder stuff work for me, I wonder .... and more importantly, can I get it in the UK?

Oh Deb, here is a hug! I know how much Digit means to you and how we hurt when our furbabies hurt. My DH suffers from knee problems too. As a care-giver of those in pain, I can sympathize.

Hugs!

Poor little Digit!! Though I am sorry he tried to bite Dr. B as he's such a good vet! Do you need to do a Sam's visit? Let me know before I have surgery again. Alan's going to put the van in the shop while I'm out of commission as it's really acting up again. I'll be out of commission for

7-10 days then light duty for 3-4 weeks, we can go while I'm at lunch one day this week if you don't have a Sam's card. So glad Digit is feeling better though!
