label issues

So, are very small problem in the bigger scheme of things:

I'm finishing up a baby quilt for a baby to be born in Oct (supposedly anyway). Normally I don't get round to finishing baby quilts until after the little one is born, and the parents so far have had a name ready. So the name of the little one has been on the quilt label "Made for ..."

So what to do when I don't know the name yet. Mum said it would be a girl, I hope she is right, cause otherwise the quilt may be a bit pink. However, it is so bright with green and blue too, that I'm not too worried about that.

So: any suggestions for what to do? Should I leave a blank space on the label and provide the parents with the pen? Or what?

The reason for giving it now, is that I'll see the parents in the US next week, and otherwise I will have to mail it. I would rather give it in person (even if it is to the parents, not the baby).

Thanks, Hanne in London

Hiya, I finished a quilt last month for my friend Dawn's baby - at that point they didn't know whether it would be a boy or a girl, so no name decided. I made the label for "Baby Ferrie" (last name of the father). That worked well. Now I'm making another baby quilt, and the baby isn't due until November. This label will be made out for "Baby Hay" (last name of both of the couple). That's my way out of that situation.....

Or you could just leave the label space blank and give them a gift wrapped pen with a bow attached so they can fill in the name.

You could always do a lovely label that says "Made especially for you with love by..."

I like that - There is usually plenty of space on my labels, so they can always add the name later, if they want (to help prevent it going missing when out and about).

That's a really nice idea. Thanks! i might still give them a proper pen too.

Sure, and even supposing the parents have it picked out and the ultrasound is correct, how many kids end up going by something other than their given name? Neither my sister nor I did at home--still don't!
