Photo Box Directions

Photo Box Directions

Start with 2~12x12 sheets of cardstock and 2~ 8 ½ X 11 sheets of cardstock. Fiskar's cutter with cutting blade and scoring blade helpful.

(Lynne's note: Make sure 12X12 paper measures exactly 12 inches.)

After assembling the box, you will want to add layers and decorate with cardstock and designer series paper, or one could rubber stamp to decorate. Think about the fact that photos will be added as your decorate. Not all tabs have to have photos either.

Largest Layer: On 12x12 paper, score at 3 15/16" on all 4 sides (this is the mark on the cutter before the 4" line). Cut off square at each corner using the paper cutter. Paper looks like a giant "plus sign."

Middle Layer: 12xl2 paper, score at 4 ¼ on all 4 sides. This gives a 3 3/8" square on the bottom. Then cut off square on each corner. Then cut off 1 inch from each side. (count off 1,2 3, 4 as you do this so you don't trim off the 1st side twice!)

Smallest layer: Using the 8 ½ x 11 inch paper, cut paper into 8 ¼ x 8 ¼ inch square. Score at 2 ¾ on each side. Cut off square at each comer.

Center middle layer on largest layer and adhere. Center smallest layer on combined large and middle layers and adhere.

Lid: cut the 8 ½ x 11 inch paper into 8 ½ x 8 ½ inch square. Score at 2 1/8 on all 4 sides. Cut ½ of square off in each comer (a triangle shape). Fold and tape lid using sticky strip tape. (Lynne's note: Do not cut the whole square off the corners as in previous layers. You'll need the triangle piece to adhere box sides to each other.)

(Lynne's note: I made my first box out of scrap paper. Save your pretty paper for your 2nd or 3rd box. With some measuring errors on my part and paper that wasn't exactly the size it should be I was glad I was using scrap paper. I thought the lid looked a little big for bottom and made some adjustments as I went along. After a few "frickety frack" moments the box will seem easy and you can get creative with your own measurements.)
