Hi I'm Pat, I lurk here once in awhile. I have made a lot of picture albums through the years. But just completed my first scrapbook for my

23 year old grandaughter. Not great but OK! Trying to figure out what to put in it with zillions of pictures saved through the years.

My daughter suggested to make a scrapbook collage and put it in a picture frame. that way you admire it all the time. The picture albums I have done for my 3 kids are just put in a drawer and forgotten.

Has anybody done this?

I don't have a computer just a webtv so I am not able to download all the things you can do with a computer. Just print sites.

Hi Pat,=20

Welcome aboard and I hope that this is the first of many posts, now that = you have come out of the RCS shadows! I have done a number of collages = on some of my albums. They were mostly in wedding albums where I wanted = to show as many of the guests at a certain party as possible and still = keep it to a two page layout. Here is what I'd suggest for a one page = layout with lots of photos.

!. Get two pieces of complimenting colored cardstock in size 12x12. = (Make sure that they are really 12x12 as otherwise it will look funny in = the frame.)

  1. Put the one you will use as the backgroud aside for now.
  2. Cut 1/2 inch from the side of the complementary piece of cardstock
  3. Rotate the sheet 90 degrees.
  4. Cut a 8 inch strip so that you have one 8 x 11 1/2 inch piece and = one 4 x 11 1/2 inch piece
  5. Cut 1 inch off the 4 x 11 1/2 inch piece so that it is now 3 x 11 1/2 = inch
  6. Now get your pictures out and find the ones you want to use. Place as = many as you want in any way you want to cover the 8 x 11 1/4 piece. ( = you can even go over the edges and then once adhered, trim all the = overhang so you get a nice even finish. However make sure that the = parts of pictures that overlap can be cut. We don't want any missing = heads!!!
  7. When you are happy with the effect you have created, adhere the = photos to the 8 x 11 1/2 piece of cardstock.
  8. Adhere the cardstock piece with the photos to the background = cardstock, leaving 1/4 inch on each side and on the top of the = background cardstock showing.
  9. Use the 3 x 11 1/2 piece of cardstock for your title and/or = journaling.
  10. Adhere the 3 x 11 /12 piece of cardstock carefully leaving 1/4 inch = on the sides and on the bottom.
  11. There should be a 3/4 inch gap between the pictures and the = journalling which you can either leave blank or put a small sized = matching ribbon or fiber on to give it a more finished look.

There are hundreds of ways you could tdo this, this is just one way. = Hope you have a great time doing your page! Let us know how it turns = out.

Thanks I appreciated your response. I printed the page out. My next project will be an heirloom collage. Pictures of grand and great grandparents. But not until after the holidays.

My project for today is to clean off diningroom table from all the scrapbook stuff and store it. I have a feeling my grandaughter wants to make her Mom a scrapbook. She has been asking me since thanksgiving if I have any pictures. Of course I kinda lied and said I had no clue where everything was, until after I did hers Now I can tell her I found them. LOL.

I have all the 12x12 card stock and papers. paper strippers, tags etc, this is an expensive hobby. But my other hobby is not cheap either. woodworking.

When I get to this collage stuff I will probably make my own frames , I also have a mat cutter.

I also sew when i'm in he mood.

I already have a craft room in the house. My shop outside is 18x18ft, my son built for me about 10 years ago. Right now it needs a thorough cleaning out. Still haven't taken out everything that was put in there from the yard. We had those 4 hurricanes come real close. Since hurricane season lasts till the end of Nov. figured I'd leave it there.

It is on he list of things to do.

Hi Pat welcome to rcs! I'm not into collages, but there're a lot of good embellishments you could use on one on the market nowadays. I'm sure someone here will be able to give you some good advice. Good luck and let us know how it turns out should you decide to make it.

Now that I finished grandaughters scrapbbook haven't heard from her. We do the cookie thing every year and she decorates a gingerbread house.

This year she told me she wants to bring a friend who has never made Christmas cookies or gingerbread houses. I told her sure, amazes me that kids never get to do this while growing up these days.
