Some of you may already know this but the free Webshots service is going away and "Smile by Webshots" is taking it's place. For more info -

Make sure to read the fine print. While the word Free is quite prominent in several places the fact is the service will only be free until the official launch. At that time you only get a 30 day free trial. If you don't want to stay with Webshots/Smile and want to save your photos, they do have a service where they will send them to your email in zip files. Unfortunately you just get the photos. Any captions or comments you had with them are lost.
I know many of you use Webshots so I hope this helps. I know I don't remember getting an email from them about this change and only found out about it from a different forum.
*THANK YOU* for letting us know about Webshots! My desktop puter died and= I lost many photos along with it and losing the photos on Webshots would h= ave doubled the loss. I have noooooo idea what a zip drive might be, but = I guess I'll be learning soon. LOL

Leslie & The Furbabies in chilly MO.- my tomato plants froze last night :-(
Leslie, I picked my 2 fairly medium size, mostly green tomatoes today to have fried green tomatoes for supper. We are leaving in a few days for vacation and they won't have time to get red. Good luck with your pictures! Barbara in SC where temp are 55/65 last night and today
You did better than I did Leslie, my link to the File didn't work. Now that you have reminded me I had better try again. Many moons ago WinZip was available for a free download so I guess that it still is. Just a matter of doing a "Google". Jeanne used to be good at finding this sort of thing, maybe she will pop in and help.
I am lost-er and lost-er! LOL I downloaded WinZip, discovered the email = from WebShots with the zip file had disappeared from my inbox (I assume my = two weeks of availability has expired???). I went back to WebShots and it = said I could download my pics- rather than the message that they would emai= l a zip file. I am *guessing* I downloaded the pics since I now have WinZ= ip (???) but now I can't find the pics on my computer. And, in a clicking = frenzy, I may have downloaded the 459 pics FOUR times! Yikes!
I am sooooooo confused and feeling soooooo blonde!
Leslie & The Furbabies in Mo. where I am wandering lost and frustrated in C= omputerLand
I was able to download my Webshots albums. They came in three "zipped" files. At first, I could only see "generic pictures", but a friend was able to adjust something on my computer to allow me to see "thumbnails" of each picture. Unfortunately, the titles and comments on each picture do not download. I actually went through Webshots and wrote a description of each picture, the date, etc. Webshots is where I had kept a Quilt Journal....I didn't want to lose the pictures, the dates the quilts were made, who they were made for, the pattern name, or an instructor's name (if it was made in a class). Now I (actually DH) will have to figure out where I can now put them, and then I'll have to re-label them all.
Same here- everything is gone as far as labels and comments and organizatio= n and my pic by pic instructions for making many sewn projects. And now I = have 489 photos in a 'glomp' and I'll have to view every one of them to fin= d the one I want. Really, they are pretty much useless to me without a to= n of work to reorganize them. Sheesh! Free aint all it's cracked up to b= e.... it seems there's a fairly high price in the end.
Leslie & The Furbabies > Some of you may already know this but the free Webshots service is going= =20
Follow it thru s=everal hard-to-find steps (I think they try to make it confusing to 'encour=age' people to pay the fee rather than mess with the zip file request) and,= finally, you will be able to request your zip files be emailed to you. Good luck... it was an extremely frustrating journey for me to get WinZip, = download my pics from the zip file and then try to figger out where the pic= s landed on my puter. My thanks to Dee in Oz for her help and encouragemen= t which kept me working at it. ;-) Now the sorting and labeling...
Leslie & The Furbabies > I was never given the zip download option.
Thanks -- I need to migrate from WS but have to download their software to= download all my photos. (And I never did update my email address with the= m, so any message they've sent me hasn't arrived.)
So many ways to save photos....such confusion....
