Webshots scared me!

I have my photos on Webshots because I am an extremely tolerant and patient person, or else I am too lazy to move them all. The ads have always been a challenge, and it seems to take a long time to load them for viewing.

But today I was taking a peek. I am the only one home, and it is very quiet. All of a sudden I hear a "cough, cough". It about scared the bejeezus out of me. Then I heard "When mucus makes you cough...." It was an audio ad coming from my Webshots page. Come on, Webshots people. I know the service is free and all, but that's a little much.

Go to Picasa as I did, and you won't have to deal with that sort of thing. There are other services that you could consider also, but in the ones I tried, Picasa was the best for me. The one thing that I dislike about Picas, is the longer upload times for my pictures, but this is a small price to pay for no adds.

Thank you for the warning, Sherry. We usually have the sound turned off the computer speakers but that would have startled me too. Might have turned and splattered the sneaky cougher with a cup of hot coffee. Polly

I am so glad I am not the only one that got spooked! Mine was a commercial with a frog and some kids about washing hands.... Grr. I must remember to turn off my speakers when going to peek at the beauties that are posted there.

I went to webshots to see Estelle's latest wall hanging, and got the same obnoxious ad. This has reconfirmed for me that I will not be going to webshots at all, even if it means missing out on all your wonderful pictures.

I only listen to the internet with headphones - that way if I don't want to hear someone cough I don't have to!

I pay the monthly charge because I have A LOT of photos at Webshots. If you go look at my photos, do you still get those ads with sound? I never see or hear them when I am working on my albums nor do I have to see or hear them when I go look at someone else's stuff. There is some sort of ad over to the right hand side of the screen but it's always for a mug or a calendar -- something you can buy from Webshots with one of your photos on it. Would someone who doesn't pay go look at my Webshots album and let me know if you are subjected to the pop up ads, etc.? Thanks & CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Both are right. I, too, have a Webshots page. When you use your account yourself, there isn't any popup ads with sound, Just the ppl who look at your stuff get it. amy in CNY

Tia Mary:

Yes, I get the same loud obnoxious ad when I visit your page at webshots. I know others just turn off their sound but it irritates me too much.

I'm so tired of all the pop-ups & videos on Webshots & others (e.g., Yahoo). That's why I posted my latest quilt on Picasa. I haven't moved everything there, but it's a start. Bev in TX

Well, I shall be sending a Nasty-gram to Webshots about this! I suppose I can see having to deal with that drek when you are not paying for the service. To subject MY FRIENDS to it when they are already getting $$ from me is adding insult to injury! I know there is probably no getting away from pop-ups on most sites anymore but the ones with sound are an order of magnitude beyond tacky! Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to try to remember that marvellous phrase, Mary: "an order of magnitude beyond tacky". I can see it being useful in many a situation!

(Sorry to pick up something not quite on topic, but the words so appealed to me!). . In message , Tia Mary writes

Not so. I was working on my Webshots page and had to turn the sound off. Must be the luck of the draw to hear those annoying things Gen

:-))) LOL -- glad to be of help. And just let me tell you, I KNOW TACKY -- I am the Divine Goddess of Tacky, even if I do say so myself :-). Just ask DD or DH and they will sing my praises when it comes to tacky. Fortunately, I know better than to go to such extremes that I would be called an order of magnitude beyond tacky -- at least when I am in polite society. Just imagine the impact I had when I first went out in public here in the Deep South. Gave the Southern Belles of the area the vapours for days on end!!! Oh and I DID send Webshots a Nasty-Gram and will be checking out other options!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
