Quickutz VS Sizziz?!?

Does anyone have any experience using both of these machines?

I have never really thought that I would by a die cutting machine because it has not really been my style, I am thinking it will get very expensive to buy all the dies that I have to have : ), and because I am afraid that they may be limiting in terms of uses, but all of a sudden I have this strange desire to get one. I can't really explain it. I am just thinkiing it would be great to have and I wil be able to do so much with it, and now I want one really badly.

I thought I should get the Quickutz, because it is less expensive, more portable and easier to store, but now I am wondering if I should get the Sizzix, because it is a sturdier machine and may actually be easier to use (won't have to press as hard and get a better cut). Forgive me if I am wrong, I know there are lots of people around here that have both systems and love both, and I have actually never used either, although a had a very quick demo of Sizzez on the weekend and it looked pretty nice. I am still afraid of how much I may spend onthe dies, but I suppose if I aquire them over time with my coupons it won't be so bad, right? Sizzix has those new sizzlets coming out too. I guess they are to compete with the Quickutz.

Does anyone know how much the Sizzex machine is in Michaels or Joannes in the states? I will be in Phoenix later in the year and could possible do some shopping there. Also, are the quickutz available in stores or just on the net? Does anyone know.

Any info / advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has one and just doesn"t use it like they thought they would, please let me know this too.

Thank you all. esther

Hi Esther,

I've used both...

The Sizzix can be found at Michaels for $80 and JoAnns for $99, but with a coupon its much more reasonable.

The QuicKutz is sold in some LSS's, but not all.

The Sizzix is far easier to press than the QK handle. QK has more fonts, but smaller shapes.

Sizzix and its new Sizzlets will be more affordable than QK ($150 for upper, lower and shadows).

I dunno... they both have good points and not so good.

I would just decide if I care about having large titles, and large shapes, or if having new fonts more often was most important to me.

Hope my rambles have helped... Sarah

My 2 cents...

I own a QuicKutz with a large alphabet and a mini alphabet. I can say that for me, at this point, the mini alphabet is not all that practical because it is fairly small (maybe better for 6x6 scrapbooks or making greeting cards/tags). I got the QuicKutz because I needed portability since I don't have a space for scrapbooking. It's very easy to store the QK tool and the dies.

The Sizzix looks like it might be easier to push down but I thought the storage of the dies would take up a lot of room. If I had the room, I would've definitely considered the Sizzix.

After going to the Memories Expo this weekend, I can stress the importance of using tools before you buy. Try to go somewhere and use one so you can see if it's something that works for you.

I have the QK, and prefer the smaller alphabets because I like "more photo, less deco" on my pages!!

Ah, good to know. I just got the QK, haven't use it yet since I don't have any dies yet. I also like a minimalist look on my pages (shabby chic and collage is *not* my style!). I like to do subtitles, so I may get a mini set down the road. Thanks.

Excellent, detailed review Connie. I'd like to see more actual reviews of products like this here. I'm glad to hear that you like your QK for the same reasons I wanted one! ;) Can't wait to order dies. Do you have favorite places to buy from? The biggest discount I've seen so far is 25%. Do they ever get deeper than that? You can email me if you like, just remove the spamblock.

Sounds like scrapbook express is the place to be for QK. Thanks.
