Recommendations - die cutter?

Hi,

I have a zipemate, which I would've recommended-but have recently found out they are retiring it! When I go to my local crop, I use a Big shot, and its wonderful, so I would highly recommend that one! Good luck

The Wizard (spellbinders.us) is probably one of the most versatile die cut machines on the market. It can handle most other companies dies(sizzix, quickcuts, accucuts, bosscuts). Can emboss using the fiskars texture plate, brass stencils, the spellbinders dies all emboss too. It can squash bottlecaps and set eyelets.

It is a racheting machine, crank the lever up and down, and uses pinch rollers to apply even pressure. It is made of metal, no plastic parts to wear out.

Their customer service is excellent.

worth looking into. and take a look on HSN as they carry the wizard and usually bundle it with a bunch of dies or an alphabet for a better price than most.

Have you seen the Wish Blade cutting system by Xyron. It's computerized so it will cut just about any pattern but it's in the $400 (US) range. You can check it out at

Hi Helen, Long time no see.

We have the Wizard at our craft club. It is easy to use when you get into the swing of it. On the down side we have had problems with the white plates. The top one started flaking badly, we had it exchanged and that is going the same way. However we have had it replaced by yet another of a different composition. We do not know how it will fair because we decided to completely wear the old one out first. The dies are expensive. My friends club uses the Sizzix and they are happy with that.

I have got a Craft Robo but could do with someone to show me how to make it work properly. I hope it is not going to be a white elephant.

I'm curious too... John said I can have a die-cutting machine for christmas - he said I could have a crikit but I think it's still a bit expensive and we can't really afford it... but I was wondering about a Sizzix? How is the new 'big shot' machine?

Thanks, that sounds good - versatility is something I especially look for when buying craft supplies. And my local craft shop carries the Wizard.

I haven't heard of it but it sounds like the craft robo. Would love one of the computerised cutters but it's a bit over-budget for now... Thanks anyway.

Hi Shirley, I am still reading RCB occasionally, but I've been so busy non-crafts-wise and have got into cardmaking, so I've not done much beady stuff to post about. Thanks for your input about the cutters.

If I lived nearer I'd come and help you with the Craft Robo, I'm quick to learn computer-y stuff, but it's a bit of a journey up to your neck of the woods at the mo for various reasons.

Anyway, it's looking like it's between the Wizard and the Sizzix... Bummer about the price of the dies but if they are interchangeable between machines that at least widens the choice somewhat...

Well, after some research I found that the Craft Robo is cheaper than I thought it was and I figured that because I would like to cut letters as well as shapes, and would prefer to have a choice of fonts, in the long run a Craft Robo would be the better buy financially. I ran this past my boyfriend (who offered to get me a die cutter if I decided on the make) and showed him websites of the Craft Robo and various die cutters/dies, and he agreed that it was better value in the long run, and assuming not-too-expensive car repairs it looks like someone's gonna be playing with a new toy this Christmas or thereabouts!

Thanks Shirley, and Klara. I had read that it can't cut thicker card, though I heard you can tell it to cut the same lines over till it goes through? I have *loads* of paper and card and I think most of that will be cuttable by the Craft Robo, that which is too thick I can cut with decorative scissors and punches to make backings for card toppers (would like the Pro but I think that *is* pushing it a bit!) Thanks for the tip Shirley, I'll stick to not-too-fancy fonts, there are so many to choose from I'm sure the ones it can handle will keep me busy enough! Besides, I'm bearing in mind that whatever I cut out I have to be able to glue and stick to my creations!

Dont bother with Sizzlix which is the smaller version of Sizzix. Waste of money!! I like the look of the Quickcutz
