Scrapbook Expo in California

Tomorrow I'm going to the expo. Yahoo! I've planned 2 days of classes. Tomorrow's classes will work around my children's school schedule and Saturday my classes will work around their soccer schedule. When I found out the expo started on the 15th of October I knew I had to go. That's my birthday. Tomorrow and Saturday I have friends and family wanting to do things with me for my birthday, but I've had to say no I'm at the Scrapbook Expo. Where have they been in past years? haha I honestly didn't think about any thing other than treating myself to some scrapbook classes on my birthday. Sounded like a great way to spend some of the day to me. I'll report back tomorrow night. Mrs. Grossman's class is tomorrow. It will be the 3rd one I've taken. They've all been WONDERFUL! I can't get enough of them. I better of make sure my digital camera is charged!

Would you keep an eye out for the new Sizzix Sidekick machine? You can take a peek at what it looks like on our RCS website under the links page/this weeks new product.

It comes out in November, but they may have it on display. If you get a chance can you see if you spot it at the expo and let me/us know how it works? It's supposed to fit in the palm of your hand and it's for the sizzlit dies. If they do have it, can you find out if it can be used with QuickCuts or any other system? I'm drolling looking at the picture! LOL

MC, I saw the sidekick when I was at Expo in Orlando. I saw it demonstrated but didn't really pay close attention since I wasn't in the market for it. It's a lot smaller than the Sizzix but since I already have a Sizzix.........not sure I'd invest in it. I guess it would be fine if you only planned to use Sizzlits. However it will not work with the full size dies . Hugs S

I went to the expo today and took 2 classes today. Mrs. Grossman's sticker classes and a class in how to make 6 pages in 60 minutes. The sticker class was fun as usual. I highly recommend Mrs. Grossman's class. We learned to crumple stickers today. It was like tearing paper in the beginning. Very hard to take a perfectly good sticker and crumple it. They were metal looking stickers and crumpling gave them a beautiful effect.

2nd class didn't really give any tips on how to do 6 pages in 60 minutes, which is what I thought it would do. They had 6 pages all planned out, gave us a package of page supplies and then just urged us on through each layout. Yes, I got 6 pages done in 60 minutes, but it was stressful. I guess what I learned is if you're going to try in make pages fast have the design planned, the materials all together and just work as fast as possible.

I walked through the selling area and you ladies are not going to believe this for a minute... I bought nothing. Yes, you heard me correctly. I only had 1 hour, had to pick kids up at school. The selling area was smaller than last year, but seemed to have the same about of vendors. Very crowded. I looked at everything and thought I have plenty of paper, stickers, die cuts, glitter and gadgets do I really need any more? Is it worth standing in line for? I decided no and will possibly buy some paper tomorrow when I'm with my SIL. I have 2 hours to shop tomorrow and will stand in line for some interesting paper I'm sure.

M-C I didn't see the thingamajigger you asked about, but looks like you got a good review from Hannah.

What I saw a lot of at the expo selling area today was a trend towards selling creativity. A lot of premade everything. For me it was sad, because I love making my own items for my album. But I could see the point in having things made making it easier for people who either don't want to make things or don't have the ability to make them. This way more people can make albums for themselves and their family. There was a booth there where a gal was selling things printed on vellum. I think that is all she had. I thought what a great idea for making money. But for me it was all stuff I print out myself.

I'm off tomorrow to do a class on colorblocking. I've tried my hand at it and it doesn't seem as easy as it looks, so thought I'd see if I could get some pointers. I recently did a colorblock baby page, which I took a picture of, but it's burry. I need to go to Walmart and get that cheap tripod Ronni suggested!
