shaker boxes

I made my first shaker boxes today. I love them! I used packing material that surrounded some computer parts that came in the mail, and then used shrink plastic and plastic pieces from stuff for the window. I love them they came out adorable! I will take some pictures later and post them, I just don't feel like taking pictures right now..lol How do you make your shaker boxes? what do you use that you like the best? What do you fill them with?

I used seed beads (why does beads look funny?)

Yea, I can't wait to see!! I've only made a few, though I know some of the other ladies have made great ones. April made a GREAT barn shaker, really cute. I use fun foam and a transparency to hold the stuffins in.

Yes I make shaker boxes too. Mine are almost too thin to use seed beads. I use a few seed beads and the rest microbeads. And I use mini punches. Like for the leaf shaker I had mini leaves with the beads. For the baby shaker I had mini pacifiers and diaper pins. I fold card stock and use foam tape to make my shaker boxes. Check out my "Other Crafts" album for pictures of 3 of my shaker boxes. I'm looking forward to seeing your wonderful creations.

I use the same thing. Fun foam and transparency. I cut a lot of my shaker boxes from sizzix dies. Sandy

Great! Shaker boxes are fun. I use pieces of page protectors and the sticky foam. I also like to use the confetti for some: I did a chili pepper and put red and green chili pepper confetti in it,have made a carrott and put the little sunglasses confetti inside. The microbeads make a really flowing shaker.Made a Christmas ornament and used confetti and beads wih a silver cord. I have it on a comp book that I made for Christmas card lists. I think the neatest one I have seen in awhile is the one April made that people have referred to. Way cool!

Sabrina - what a great idea with the confetti, if you used it on your wedding day and preserve it like that (in a shaker box) in your wedding album! We used potpourri on our wedding day...I wish I saved some to use in a shaker box now.

Hi Was looking at your "other" folder and saw your hearts tissue box cover. Was wondering where I could get the directions or pattern to make one. My friend lives in a nursing home because of having MS and doesn't have a lot of room to decorate. Thought this would be a neat way for her to decorate and will still be useful at the same time. Thanks in advance Sharon

Well,Judee,I think you could buy a little more of the wedding confetti and make a shaker, put it on a layout and no one would be the wiser....unless you told them.heeheeheee

Hey Sharon,

I haven't dug my pattern out, but I'll have to get on it. If you sew they are very easy. In fact I bought one at a craft show and make my own pattern. Do you ever make your own patterns?

Aren't they fun Marie!? I love making shakers. I use double sided foam tape and cut up a page protector for the window. I've stuffed mine w/ punchies, glitter, seed beads, sand, confetti...the options are only limited to your imagination. Try mixing it up a little and using more than one thing inside your shaker. Have fun making them!

Hi Lynne Thanks for respolnding. Yes I have made my own patterns. I was thinking I could just measure the tissue box and sew 2 pieces of fabric toghether.......just wasn't sure what to do with the bottom.

Hey Sharon,

How about I send you one and then you could make your own pattern. Email me privately Qoe at earthlink dot net.

I don't know about you, but having the example in front of me helps me so much better than written instructions.
