Beall treen boxes

I just purchased the beall 1 1/4" treen mandrel kit for making boxes. If I can produce some decent quality, I want to sell them in a gallery. I plan to make them out of figured woods ( maple and such ).

The problem is I don't know what they are worth. Anybody else out there making treen boxes for sale. What do you think they can sell for?

Thanks,

Never have been much of a seller for me, which is a shame, given that they're easily made, and quite a satisfying project. Don't see many among the competition, either, so I'm supposing their experience is the same.

All depends on the market you've got handy. IOW, if nobody around where you live has ever heard of or seen a treen box and you've got lots of box collectors or you can think of some nifty new marketing ploy to sell them, then you're in business. You'll never know until you ask other people in your area or try it yourself. There's no telling what people will buy (and no accounting for some people's taste, either!...no reference to your boxes, just to some of the stuff that I've seen people buy).

The inside diameter is fixed, which limits the versatility.

It's fast/easy to turn the base on the mandrel. Drill the hole. Put on mandrel. Apply tailstock. Rough turn. Remove tailstock. final turn, work on bottom of bottom. Sand.

The Mandrel edge is fine & sharp, which grips surprisingly well without the ability to expand, etc.

The top is held by a coupling, which has to be glued. This slows down the maanufacturing process.

Or you can get the optional expanding mandrel for the top, and glue a dowel to connect the lid to the plug.
