1 1/4"x8 face plates

I seem to recall that waaay back, someone advertised making faceplates and I believe this was a turner in Canada. I'd appreciate a heads up if anyone remembers who this was. A friend has bought a DVR and my supplier does not carry that size nuts. In fact, he shows no listing for them at all...1 1/4"x7 or x9 but not x8.

Thanks

1" x 7, 1 1/8 x 7 and 1 1/4 x 7 are National Coarse. The 8 pitch threads, for some reason, are used in chemical plants and refineries, for bolting up pipe flanges. I live in the SF Bay Area, where there are lots of refineries, and I have two sources in easy driving distance. Where do you live?

There are a number of links to 1-1/4 x 8 TPI spindle nuts, tap and die, and making your own fixtures in this list of PM3520 Tips on the AAW site:

Hi Mike

Bill Noble is the only one I remember offering faceplates for sale that he makes himself.

As for nuts, Mc Master Carr carries the nuts, they come in a 5 pack and are $9.87 for the 5, the product no is 90521A275.

Have fun and take care Leo Van Der Loo

I've also purchaseed from Bill. The only caution I have is with my Nova 3K the nuts don't fit up agains the shoulder. A plastic washer takes care of the problem.

I had mine faced, relieved and drilled ...they run perfect and true and fit on the shoulder of my stubby.

I tried to order a package of nuts (11/4-8) from McMaster Carr; however, they told me that they could/would not ship to Canada due to some postal regulations? What next?? Anyway, does anyone north of the 'undefended' border know of a Canadian outlet for said nuts?

Thanks, Tom

mike - if you want to buy welded faceplates from me, visit

and browse over to the faceplates section. no problem shipping to canada. if you want just nuts, you'll find a price there for the nuts. on my site I have a table of options, so you can decide how much you want to spend - more $ to me = more features and less work for you. I recommend you consider only the 4 inch size for your lathe.

They aren't made in Canada, but I really like Don Pencil's aluminum face plates. See
