Supply Request

Hi, I am new to scrapbooking. Can you please help me find sources for the following items:

  1. Square glue stick

  1. Paper mats for photos up to 8x10 inches. These are mats cut from paper instead of matboard.

  2. Inexpensive blank greeting card blanks which I can use to make photo greeting cards.

Thanks,

Jenna

LOL

Walk into any Michaels, AC Moore or Hobby Lobby and go into the rubber stamp, scrapbooking, sticker, paper aisle and there you go.

Never seen one... the only glue sticks I've seen are round.

Most people cut their own with a paper trimmer... that way you can have whatever size and colour and pattern you want.

This one's easy - you can buy them in boxes of 50-100 or smaller packs at almost any craft store (but the bigger the box, the cheaper the cards...)

Welcome to the group Jenna.

I've never seen square glue sticks, just round ones.

Paper mats, just cut a sheet of cardstock to the appropriate size for your picture

For greeting cards, I just cut a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper in half lengthwise and I have two cards.

Welcome to the world of scrapbooking!

  1. I find glue sticks tend to lose their stickiness over time. I prefer adhesive runners like Tombow, etc. It's kind of like a little tape runner/gun. With some brands, you can buy refills. With others, you buy a whole new doo-dad each time. You can find them in several different stores like, Wal Mart, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.

  1. Most people simply cut their own mats to whatever size they need. All you need is a paper cutter and obviously paper or cardstock. It's very easy to cut your own mats!

  2. I've seen blank greeting cards with envelopes at Wal Mart, but you should be able to find them at any craft store, too.

Have fun in your new-found hobby! :-)

I was curious, so I googled, and Pioneer makes these. There are many places to order online, if you do a search.

Now, do you want to put the mat in front of, or behind your picture? Either way, your best bet is to cut your own. That way you can use any scrapbook paper and coordinate it to your layout. For cutting a mat for behind a photo, you just cut a rectangle a bit bigger than your picture. There are several kinds of paper trimmers at hobby/craft stores, so just go browse.

To cut a mat to go in front of a photo, you need to also cut out an inside rectangle, a bit smaller than your pic. That can be a bit tricky, but with an Xacto knife and a straight edge, and a steady hand, you can do it.

Those? Easy. Craft store, hobby store, Michaels, Target, I've seen them at all those places.

Happy scrappin'!

Really? I use them lots, and I've found the bond to be quite strong, as in it rips the paper if I try to unstick something that's dried. What brand are you using?

It was in 2000 - 2002, when I first started scrapping. LOL So maybe they've improved them. I can't remember what brand it was, but I do remember I got them at Wal Mart and they were cheapies. The one adhesive I refuse to use, unless I have absolutely no other choice, is the Hermafix or Dotto as it's called now. Dotto and I just do not get along. LOL

Glue sticks... it was around 2002 when a friend and I went to see some scrapbooks her secretary had done. She'd been scrapbooking for about 4 years and we were only doing it for about 2. First thing I noticed was that things were slipping out of her books. She said it happened all the time. We asked her what adhesive she used and she said glue sticks all the way. That's when I decided to stop using them. I have to say on the few pages I did use them nothing had slipped out of mine, but hers were a real problem. The other thing I noticed about her scrapbooks that the liberal use of crazy scissors.... not a good thing. Everything had a fancy edge. I'm not exaggerating..... EVERYTHING!

For my greeting cards. I just buy the 81/2 by 11 paper and cut it in half then fold it. I find it's cheaper.

I think Stampin Up does also, but I'm not sure why square would be more beneficial?

I agree... glue sticks BAD. I had tried every brand and none held for more than 2, 2.5 years. Of course I haven't used them for probably 6 years but will Never go back. AND most are not photo safe so READ before you buy!.

Stampin Up does indeed have a RECTANGLE glue stick. Itis $3.95.

Jenna, here is link to a Stampin Up rep if you need one (and no they don't have to come to your house or anything)

I also won't use Hermafix... we never got along either. :) Melissa in Seattle

I don't care for those either. I have been using the K & Company Wacky Tac tape runner...I really like it. The refills last longer so I don't have to change them as often.
