swap idea

Reading, and seeing, Jessie & Peggy's page swap got me to thinking. What do you think about an RCS page swap? Granted, we might have to put this off until after the new year, but that's ok. What got me to thinking about this was Jessie's statement about getting out of her comfort zone. So one purpose of this swap would be to get us all out of our scrapbooking comfort zones. Another, obviously, would be for us all to get pages done! LOL

So far, I've thought of two options. First option is for the hostess (I guess that would be me since I opened my big mouth LOL) to pair people up. The other option would be to do this in small groups of like, oh, ..... 5 -

  1. (That's just a number I pulled out of the air, it can be changed.) The first option would be easier work-wise, but we would only have a 1-2 page layout. The second option would be harder work-wise, but we would each have several 1-2 page layouts.

I haven't really thought about all the tiny details yet, so I'm open to any all ideas ya'll have. Like I said, this can always be done after the new year so everybody doesn't have a swap on their plates along with turkey, pumpkin pie, baking, gift shopping, tree-trimming, gift wrapping, and the inevitable housework. So, let's get some feedback on this. What do you all think?

I think it's a great idea and since I'm right here, if you'd like, I can help you and give you the use of the big table in the craft room. You can even have the stuff sent here and I promise I won't open it. One of the things that might come up is repetitionsas there are people who have already swaped pages or journals, but it could still be a lot of fun. People can simply include the list of people that they have already exchanged with. Also, people could be as creative as they want, meaning that they can make the different pages for different people or they can do as in the recipe swap and repeat the same page.

Each person could establish a theme they want Mine has always been "all about you" or like Peggy and Jessie, they could exchange pictures and then work off the pictures which I think is an awesome way to be challenged, but does mean making different pages for each person.

Based on past experience, I would say that just like the US Scrapbox, only people that have been posting regularly (once or twice a week) for the past

3 months should be eligible. I think we should also ask the past hostesses to contact the new one, in this case you Deb, with a list of those people who flaked on their swap or as NSSSFs. There has been too much hardship placed on the past hostesses from people who do not live up to their committment or do not help out when things get lost in the mail. I don't think it's the hostesses fault if things get lost and frankly it's the least the sender can do to offer to make up the loss and send it priority post so that it gets there just a few days latter.

Just my two cents worth.

Creativity is the going to be the key with this, I hope. :-) It would be so great to be able to see tons of creativity in this swap.

That's definiately one idea there, MC, which is to have different themes and people just sign up for a theme, or whatever. I was hoping we could exchange pictures as Jessie & Peggy did. I always have a hard time putting together a layout without pictures. (I guess I'm visually challenged in that area.) If pictures are exchanged, then we all need to decide if we want to pair up with one persone, or be in small groups. It would definately be more challenging, but I think it would be very awesome that way.

Yes, this swap would be limited to those regular posters who have been posting for at least 3 months. Since this is a public forum, we would take the precautions and mailing addresses, etc would be sent via email. Of course, there would be a deadline too, but it would be sufficient enough to give everybody lots of time to get there swaps in. I would appreciate it if past hostesses contacted me with flakers, although, I'm completely understanding if events beyond the person's control caused them to seem like a flaker. I do believe, however, in giving someone a second chance. At the same time though, if someone really doesn't think they'll follow through with this, then don't sign up.

This was done before on RCS...it was called "Trading Pages Swap" but I don't remember who organized it. Maybe they can help you?

I checked Google and I believe Lizz Parsons was the coordinator! Is Lizz still around? Deb, here is the link to her original Swap post:

I was just wondering how Lizz was doing! I hope she is doing well with her transplant. Haven't heard from her in a long time. Hope all is well.

I've been thinking for a wile now that a trading pages swap would be fun again. What we did last time was Lizz paired us up and then we contacted each other and conversed and swapped pictures to make lo's. I think that's about all the work that the hostess had. I had Janet in Maine and it was nice to be able to get to know her a little better. Plus, I got a great lo out of it. Hopefully, she felt the same for my lo. Actually, it's the only lo I have online. She put it in her webshots. I was proud. All I would suggest is that You pair up like sized scrappers (8

1/2x11, 12x12) unless they don't mind.

Thanks for the link MC. Lizz had some great guidelines that I hadn't thought about! Thanks Lizz, and how are you doing? You lurking out there?

I fully agree with pairing people up on size, unless no one cares what size of LO they make. I for one, will scrap whatever size someone wants. I've always scrapped in 12 x 12, so scrapping in something smaller would be a challenge to me. It would be nice to be challenged, though. :-)

Is this something people would be willing to start now, or would you rather wait until after New Year's? I'm thinking it might be easier on everyone to wait until after New Year's, but I don't want to assume anything.

Sounds like fun, but I wouldn't be able to participate until after the first of the year.
