It feels so great to share a bit of good news at last! My Mom received the results from her bone scan today, after a long wait and a lot of stress. The results were good - cancer has not spread to the bones as feared. She has very bad osteoperosus (sp?) and that was what was picked up the first time on her first bone scan. She still has a lot of pain and gets sick (flu etc) quickly, but now at least have some hope! So everyone - thank you very very much for all your good thoughts, and prayers! Really very much appreciated! Today was a good day :)

What good news! Osteoporosis is something I worry about with myself. I better drink an extra glass of milk today while I'm thinking about it.

Yeah!!! One of the great things today is that they can to some extent rebuild bones with calcium and what not. Glad the news is good. Now what about you??? How are you doing?

Judy, Have the dr's check her thyroid...My mom just had one removed in her throat and that caused her calcium to go up which brought on the osteoperosus (sp?) . When they went in there, there was only 1 that had to be removed, they thought that they had to take them all out, but it was just the 1. ~~Yanya~~ Fla
That is good news Judy! Hopefully the doctors will be able to track down what's making her get sick so quickly. What kind of treatment can she get for the osteoperosis?

Thanks Deb :) She gets sick quickly because her imune system is very low. She had breast cancer in 2000 and have been on Timoxsefin (sp?), a type of chemo therapy ever since. She's looking for a good bone specialist at the moment in her area. Aparently there's a new kind of electronic therapy available for Osteoporosus, but I'll let everyone know when I've got more info :)

Judy.....Glad you are at last receiving some information on your Mom's condition and that it is something that can be monitored and treated. A friend of mine has only 40% bone mass left after years on HRT, following a hysterectomy for complicated endometriosis. There is a lot of help available now for the condition and a good bone specialist will get her on the right track.

JUdy , That is wonderful news about your Mom! I had to have a second bone scan years ago because my previous injuries and the surgery to my knee was causing a huge uptake of radiation and giveing an iffy scan. I know how it feels to be anxious about cancer coming back somewhere! I agree with y'all, this group has a mighty powerful prayer connection. I can feel a surge each time I am being thought of or prayed for,I know the positive emanations from this sincere group are heard and acted upon.

Judy, I opted to quit taking my Tamoxifen after three years as they didn't have any long term studies about it after four years even though they reccomend a person take it for five. It seems there was a high incidence of cervical cancer so I just took it upon myself to quit after three years.I had already had the IV chemo for six months. I have been Ca free for eight years..nine years in Feb of
2006. Chemo is very hard on a person's bones and teeth! I had three of my teeth just break off! Wow! I was blown away and it had been so long since I had my chemo that I had forgotten they had cautioned me about it and sent me to my dentist while I was having treatment. I do not complain though!! I just thank God there are wonderful people out there researching and finding out how to take care of the bad diseases we get! Sabrina, my Mom is at the end of her fifth year in April, and so far all is good, but we got a big scare with the bone scan. The chemo is causing a lot of side effects and on top of her osteoporosus, is definitely hard on her bones, but I just keep praying that all will turn out well. At least her mind (and mine) is a bit more at ease until her next check-up (in three months). Thank you for your kind and comforting words :)))

Judy the main reason I opted to stop was the Tamoxifen was making me so tired. Doc said that was a big complaint among all who take it. Her Mom was on it and that was her biggest complaint. I just felt so washed out all of the time. I got over that after I stoped taking it. My Dr. was all right with me stopping.It was totally my decision. I am glad you and your Mom are taking care of yourselves and (each other). big hugs to a both, Sabrina
