Thumb punch trick

So, on the jewelry page I just made, I punched out a bunch of circles with some thumb punches, and one of the papers I used was pretty thick, so my thumb started hurting.

So I took a short length of dowel and put that on top of the punch and used that to push down with both hands. But then my hands were slipping so I wrapped a piece of duct tape around the stick. But then, a few times the punch slipped and whizzed across the room as the stick banged into the table, so then I put the punch on a piece of that spongy shelf lining stuff, and after that everything worked great.

LOL! This sounds like it could be an episode of a scrapping soap opera or something. :-)

"You'll put your eye out with that!!" :-)

Glad you rigged something together that finally worked! Sometimes you need something RIGHT NOW!!! and it's amazing what you can come up with sometimes that actually works. May not be pretty, LOL, but as long as it works, hey, who cares? ;-)

I just thought I might be able to save your table from further abuse in the future!

Thanks! That shelf paper cushion worked out great though. Now, if that device were five dollars instead of twenty, and if I could get it at the store instead of paying shipping . . . then maybe.

Whenever I need a big bunch of punchies ordiecuts I offer mygrandson or my niece a buck ot two to cut them for me LOL.>Iwondered how many different punches it worked with... I think though witha 40%Michaels' coupon it would be worth having. I was doing some punchingwith my CMsquare punch yesterday and sometimes I needed to turn it upsidedown and lean onit to get it to punch as I just don't have the handstrength to do it. Althoughthe doctor said my hands looked fine when Itold her how much pain my hands giveme. I guess they need to be knarledwith arthritis to get any attention.Lynne

ROTF!!

Sorry Luna, but I could picture myself doing that, but the punch would not have lasted after whizzing away!!

Something I discovered is regular punches where you punch the middle of them down, well I just turn them upside down where you can see the placement of the paper better, then i put a piece of cardboard over it and press the whole punch down. Also that way if the thing sticks you can also easier use whatever and push it back open.

TFS your tip too!!

My husband has same doctor and he's being treated for his arthritis although his is way worse and started when he was 30. And yes the first thing they said was wish you would have come in sooner so we could have slowed down the deteriation of the bones. Me, ahh you look fine. I will push it further. Doctors have time limits now and they have to get you out the door. Though I've never heard of limits on how many times you can go and pester them.

Lynne you should see a rheumatologist. He/She will be able to help you more than a regular doctor.

That's the trick to convince my regular doctor to give me a referral to the rheumatologist. We'll see how hard or easy that is going to be. I woke up this morning and after using tongs yesterday on 4 dozen tamales I had made my hand hurt SO bad.
