What roller tape to use???

I am quickly collecting roller-type scrapbooking tape because I buy them but they don't work very well. I really need some advice about which is the best refillable roller tape dispenser - hope someone can help.

I'd really like to have a tape dispense like the one the scrapbook host on DIY network scrapbook shows uses. It is not a see-through case, is a blue case, and it seems to roll out the tape and stop rolling just fine.

I first purchsed the small Scotch dispenser. It worked fairly well, but is very small and doesn't hold very much tape and isn't refillable - seeming quite expensive at about $5 +. Then I purchased the Tombo removeable adhesive dispenser. The tape dispenses fairly well but the adhesive will seem sticky yet it won't stay placed, it just falls off the page. Then I bought the larger Scotch dispenser and have problems with it too. The adhesive is so good, its difficult to place because once it sticks, there's no replacing. The main problem with this one though is that it rolls out the tape just fine but stopping the tape leaves a great big glob of adhesive and is really messy and leaves lumps.

Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried the CM tape runner? That is what I am using it works fine. It is refillable too. They now have a mini one too.

I always hear of Hermafix but haven't tried it. I think that one has a blue dispenser. Could that be the one used on they DIY show. That channel is not available where I live.

I use the hermafix. It works well for me. I have the tabs. The following link is what the Hermafix dispenser looks like.

Hi Diana,

Thanks so much for your reply! I haven't tried the CM tape runner....from what I can see online, you have to buy it from someone who sells it - like Avon or Tupperware??

I think I'd like to try it. Does the adhesive allow for a quick relalignment if you get something placed incorrectly?

I have seen the Hermafix tape rollers at Michael's Craft store - it dispenses dots of glue. They also had one that dispensed tabs. I'm afraid to try the dots as I'm afraid it might not be adhered evenly with the dots of glue "bumps" showing. I already have the Wacky Tack tape so I don't need the tab dispenser.

Thanks for the help......do you think I could buy the CM tape runner on Ebay? If so, what is a good price?

Hi Tammy,

I saw the hermafix tab dispenser at Michael's Crafts store....I didn't consider it because I already have the Wacky Tack tape which works fine, so when my two rolls are gone, I'll probably buy the Hermafix tabs. Then I won't have to cut anymore!

Thanks for the tip!

I use CM tape runners. They are refillable. Yes, the are only sold by consultants. You may be able to go to their website and find a person near you.

The tape runner that you described sounds like a Hermifix. I personally haven't used them "YET" but would like to get one. I know that a lot of people like them a lot though.

I have tried miscellaneous tape dispensers and I think most are crummy. I guess I am picky.

I use Tombo and I love it. You are right....the repositionable is crummy....but the permanent is great!

Yes, you do have to buy it from a CMC. I think you can buy it on their website from your CMC. I can give you my CMC web address if you like. The tape runner is 6.75 and the refills are $4.75 . I don't know if you can get the new ones on EBAY but the old ones might be on there. Worth a shot.

Yes you can reposition if it's placed incorrectly.

I think with the hermafix you can erase the glue.

I use Hermafix glue dots. Totally hooked on those. They are repositionable, and since I'm never sure about the layout, and keep fusing, these work very well. They do become permanent after a few days. I stated to use the type when I began to do mosaics with photos as you can make adjustments as you go. I've tried others, and haven't found any I like better.

Sharon -" I Ditto Tam C " - love my Hermafix --- easy to move a phot and even easier to remove the "blue dots' off of surfaces you do not want it on --- just rub it!

CM Tape Runner is refillable??? You guys must get more/better stuff in the states... lol. I just finished using my CM tape runner and it certainly was not refillable... I was a little disappointed too as I had spent over $12 on it. I will have to get in touch with them (well am soon to be a consultant anyways), but I did not know they had refillable runners available.

no, you're probably right. the original CM tape runner WAS refillable. however, they revamped that one and went to one that was NOT refillable. now, though, they have changed the whole thing again, and my understanding is that the newest one that is out IS once again refillable. i'm not the biggest advocate of these things. i had major fights with them trying to get them to work for me when i first started using them. about the time that they came out with the second style, though, i finally caught on to the first style. i bought ALL of the old ones i could find very quickly and have just used them up recently. i finally broke down and started using one of the second type (the ones that are NOT refillable) and i hate it. i can't get the little pieces to come off as i wish at all. so...i'm anxious to see now the newer and MORE improved one works for me. if i can't get it to work any better, i'll be going with hermafix. however....xyron has a new hand held deal out now, too. has anyone tried theirs? i know michael's carries it. i might have to try that one as well. sorry for the novel i accidentally created here. those who have scrapped with me KNOW better than to get me into a rant about that poor CM tape runner! LOL.... good luck, and let us know what you decide! lori shay louisville

I agree with all those who recommend the CM tape runner. I love their new mini runner too. I think they last much longer than the other brands I've used. Plus when you find a CMC near you, you can just drop by their place or they can drop it by yours. Very convenient.

I like the hermafix also. I guess the phot spllits are what I use most and the Hermafix dispenser is the best.

Creative Memories has come out with two new tape-runners. Both are refillable and miles better than the old refillable one. The regular size one came out in August and the mini-one came out in Sept. (To general consultants - earlier to leaders) the mini one is so cool! You can use it on the tiniest pieces of paper. The tape is what is mini - the pieces are about 1/8" wide by 1/16" inch long - of course they roll out in whatever length you want but no wider than 1/8". So that being said- if you put your zip in the CM website you can get a consultant name and phone # near you, call them and they can bring it to you. So good luck! Hope this helped :)

I just had to pipe in here and give my opinion of the xyron hand held adhesive, I hated it. I bought it thinking it would be great seeing I love my xyron 519 and 150 but I couldn't get this thing to work. When I took out the insides to see what was up a piece broke off....I couldn't believe it. And it was such a little piece I can't imagine how with use it wouldn't break off. I haven't heard anyone who has tried it say that they liked it. Save your money. JMHO Sharon

Hermafix is the way to go...I love my stick dots. And there is a site that always has them on sale and only charges .99 for shipping. Susan W. knows the website...I can't think of it right off the top of my head...sorry.. Faye in the UK

I think it's great that there are choices. My scrapping pal doesn't like roller tape at all and use the CM photo splits. Me, I found out I really like the CM tape runner. I knew I liked it, but I ran out of it and you'd think I was on drugs and ran out. I was missing my tape runner so much. I started digging through all my scrapping stuff and all my craft drawers. First I found an empty tape runner as a true addict I threw it and kept digging. Finally I found a tape runner, but I've got to find a CM consultant before I completely run out. haha
