X-Acto Knife - Cutting Mat Question

Hi,

I am new to the group. Gathering supplies to start my first scrapbook for my son that is graduating from high school. So, have a big job ahead of me...but looking forward to every minute.

Anyway, for some things I want to use an X-Acto knife and I am not sure if any of the self healing mats that will handle the abuse of X-Acto.

Please let me know,

Thanks, Louise

i use my CM cutting mat for everything, exacto knife and all. it's held up great so far. a lot of people use glass for cutting with exactos. that would be pretty durable, too, i would think. good luck, lori shay louisville

I use my CM mat with my X-Acto all the time with no problems. I've tried glass but everything slips too much. The self-healing mats are great because the knife kind of digs into the mat which means it can't slip.

I concur. I like that the knife digs into the mat, which as Sheri pointed out makes it not slip, but I feel like I also have more control in that it slows me down too. That way I can be precise.

Hi Louise, welcome to our group. I rarely use a xacto knife, but when I do I use a piece of glass.

Karlie, an xacto knife is a razor blade knife. I refer to them as blades as opposed to xactos. I probably didn't help you much w/ that description but it's the best I could do. They're used for cutting out template letters or pp pieces. The coluzzles require a swivel blade knife.

I have used my exacto knife with my self-healing mat and it works just fine. I use my knife for cutting out shapes and all kinds of things. Be careful though

- those things are super sharp!

And a further description: it looks somewhat like a pencil, and that is how you hold it if you have a regular (fixed) one. I have a swivel one, the blade swivels around. It's easier to make intricate cuts, but it takes some practice as you have to hold it straight up and down, no angle at all.
