whats been going on with me....

Well ladies, and gents!!, Its been a crazy couple of weeks. I have had alot on my plate and not enough energy to handle it all. My 3 year old who seems to be always sick or something, got bit by a spider at his grandmothers house. It bit him in the corner of his eye, and we had no clue what the heck bit him. Thought it was a bug of some sort and it would go away. Well it didn't. It got worse and worse. in a matter of 3 days it was swollen almost all the way shut and severely infected. I took him to the doctor and they gave him an antibiotic, and hoped that would help. Well I fudged up big-time. I was giving him 3 teaspoons instead of 3 ML!! for 3 days, So I basically OD'd him. But he was okay from that, his eye cleared up but the infection from the bug bite site moved into his head. So they drew blood to see if his white blood cell count was elevated and it was, so that meant that the antibiotic wasn't working for this bite. So they did a cat scan, the infection had moved deeper. We also found out he is anemic. Well he had been running a fever for 4 days during all of this of about 103. So I am scared to death that my little boy is going to have surgery on his head to get this infection out before it causes severe damage, or worse kills him. Well then they start him on another antibiotic, and it goes to work! It fixed everything, his fever was gone after 24 hours on the new stuff. He is doing much much better now. He has his appetite back and he is doing great! He needs an iron pill to bring his iron up, they are afraid of Sickle cell anemia... So he is now doing fine. But that is how my crazy weeks have been going! I cannot tell you how horrible I feel for this whole situation! I sent him to his grandma's for the weekend, that's out in the country, give him to much meds, and then I feel like crap. Its all my fault, and I feel horrible. I have gotten emails from a couple of you, and I am sorry I haven't replied. I got really side tracked from my rainbow swap and I am soooooooooo sorry! I am running to the post office today, and getting it to you, if overnight isn't way expensive I will be sending it that way! Like I said I am sorry! Now I need to get back to my scrapping too! boy oh boy am I behind...

Also... Hello to all the newbie's! Happy Birthday to all I have missed! Also I have looked at alot of the new pages posted by some of you, and they all look great!! Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for hearing me out ladies!

Wow Marie! That really is a lot on your plate! Don't blame yourself. We all make mistakes and how could you know what bit him or that the rest would happen. We are all used to having to give medicine in spoonfuls and I am sure that none of us here will now make that mistake, thanks to you sharing your story. As for the rainbos swap, my suggestion is to get one of thos flat rate priority envelopes and get on your computer. Go to

formatting link
and click on "click and ship" You can go ahead and make and print your own label for flat rate priority which will include tracking for $3.85 ande Katina should have it the day after tomorrow. I'm cetaily willing to wait until she gets it without your having to pay a real fortune to overnight it! As for replies to our emails, I was getting a little worried about you, but I figured you'd let me know what was going on with you when things settled down again.

Just take a deep breath and don't forget to take care of you too. Life hasn't been that easy for a few weeks now!

Hugs, M-C

Oh Marie you've had quite the time of it. Don't beat yourself up too much. I don't think there isn't a mother out there that doesn't think she's earned the "Worst Mother of the Year" award at some point. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and go give that boy of yours a big hug. Thank goodness he sounds like he's going to be alright. Dang spiders!

Kids don't come with an owners manual and medicine comes in so many shapes, sizes, dosages, etc. who can figure it out sometimes. I had almost the same experience with my oldest DD, except hers was a mosquito bite that had healed over on her scalp, but was infected underneath. Who would have ever figured on a mosquito bite? We ended up in the hospital, all of her glands were swollen, high fever that wouldn't go down, etc...... She has scar tissue in the glands from the experience. Hang in there.....raising children is a lifelong learning experience. We all learn a little more with each one as they come along. Of course, that should mean my last one should be the easiest.....NOT!!!! M-C's right - just send priority......I don't mind waiting a few more days. You've had a full plate. Sandy

Marie, I'm so glad to hear that your boy is doing much better. I can't even imagine what you were going through. There's no need to overnight the swap. We all understand and there's no need to spend the extra money on it. Just disregard the message I posted looking for you. As usual I should've checked out the new threads first.

Marie! {{{HUGS}}} Please don't beat yourself up over the mistakes. We have all made them in one form or another. If kids came with an operators manual then I lost mine at birth! What a scary time for your DS and you as well. I am sure that everyone will double check the dosages when they have to give meds to their kiddos since you have shared your experience. If it makes you feel any better I did that with my youngest DS. To make it worse he was getting chemotherapy and I just knew the drs. were going to have him carted off since I was such a horrible mother. But they didn't, I was hugged by the nurses and drs. told it happens more than you know.

Hopefully now the worst part is over. Now, take a deep breath. Take a few minutes for yourself now that it looks like the worst is over. Then go hug your baby tell him you love him and I'm sure you'll feel better. All of us Mom's have made a boo-boo at least once, if they haven't they will! HUGS to you and your baby.

Marie, I'm glad all is better with you son. Those spider bites are insidious. The pharmacist should have made sure that you knew it was 3 ml so don't feel bad. Kids have a way of bouncing back quickly. Now you need to step back, take a breath and scrapbook away. :-)

I can relate and understand your agony. I was in a similar situation recently with my 18 mo old son.

NO matter what they say or they do, the first thoughts in your head are ones of self-recrimination. It's like a mental thing where because we're the mommy, we're sworn to save and protect our children from anything and everything. Yes, that's our job, but we're practicing, just like the doctors and the lawyers. Things happen beyond our control-- both good and bad. Don't take it upon yourself that you did anything wrong. You are human, too. (..even though moms are supposed to have the powers of Superman) Be thankful that he's getting better and that you're all moving forward. There are times that things happen for a reason. If the anemia had continued undetected, that in itself could have spelled out big problems. So, making lemonade out of lemons....this event just helped to get another problem taken care of before it could be a real problem.

There is a story circulating around the email chains that talks about when God made mothers...His creation wasn't perfect until she had shed tears. We will shed many tears in the days, weeks and years to come in the process of raising our children....know that you were created that way.

Take care of YOU, too! :-) Theresa in IL

Oh Marie! What a traumatic few weeks for you! I'm glad to hear DS is doing much better now. Don't beat yourself up over a spider bite. You couldn't know that he was going to get bit. Just hang in there, take a deep breath, and remember he's ok now.
