Great job Marilyn. What program did you use to do the layout? I love the way you used the picture as the background paper.

Thanks Cathy...I used Photoshop but several image editing packages are capable of working with layers. PaintShop Pro is one!!! Each element is on its own layer and can be moved, hidden or edited by selecting the layer it is on :o)

The photo background is achieved by opening the photo of your choice (has to be high resolution for good printing though), select it and copy, go back to graphic you are working on and make a new layer, then paste photo into it. I was working on a 12 x 12 LO (maybe someday will buy a large format printer....LOL) so I just stretched the photo to cover the whole LO, then selected the layer in the Layer Palette and reduced the Opacity to 16%, which suited this LO, but it could have been higher/lower than that.

I may try and print all these different elements off and make a card/paper version to see how it works out. I already print some of my patterned backgrounds anyway....see this one for example

or in this one I have printed the main photograph with reduced Opacity as I liked the effect :o)

Thank you Sabrina. How do you live without a computer???....I love mine's and pout like mad if things play up and I need to reformat. Means I have to spend time doing all the techy stuff, instead of playing...LOL

Marilyn, I love the St. Helen's Loch LO. There are times I wish I could afford to enlarge my photographs for LO's like that. I can see that digitally might be the way - I could make a scrapbook on disk without the need to really print, and share with my family that way. This might open a whole new avenue of scrapbooking for me.............do all of the programs have 12x12 format? or just certain ones? I guess I had better start researching. Sandy

Sandy....scan at a high resolution and you can usually increase the size without making them too grainy. These are actually digital photos anyway, so it is not so hard for me to stretch them. I take it you have a digital camera though, so you may be able to do the same but if not scan at high res. and increase the size. Play around and see what you can achieve without the need to get large prints made. I do not use any original photos...I scan and print on my photo quality printer!! I am afraid I don't believe all the hype they feed us!!!! I think you can do the very best you can to ensure things will last a long time in as good a quality as possible, but I don't believe there are any guarantees.

The reason I started playing around with digital was because my daughter always loves the LO's and wants one (or a copy) for her scrapbook. She doesn't scrap, I do a book for her!!! If I don't have the same supplies to duplicate it I use the LO scanned and print on photo paper at 8 1/2 X 8 1/2 and mat and layer on 12 x 12 for her book. The digital LO is 12 x 12 anyway, so I can do the same with them! If you use a graphics programme rather than a scrapbooking programme you create your image at 12 x 12......8 x 8....6 x

6....8 x 10 if you like A4 scapping, whatever you choose :o)

As you say, you could just make your digital LOs and write them to disk to share that way. Yesterday, I also downloaded a Photo Album extension for Powerpoint which was described as a sort of scrapbook/journal component. Haven't tried it out yet....erm...haven't even played with Powerpoint...LOL I feel a HUGE learning curve approaching!!!!!! :o)

I must say you all are beginning to make me feel computer impaired with all of the fancy things you do! I really do enjoy my Webtv and would not be doing this at all if I had not been given this "easy button" :-) I don't have to worry about mine being messed up or "worm infested" or catching nasty viruses, I let MSN do the worrying. I do have to admit though, that you all sound like you do have the most fun playing!

If you are familiar with Word or Publisher, PowerPoint is really easy. It's probably not much different than the program you are using for your digital layouts.
