6 fabrics

I am looking for 6 different fabrics to make a tactile cube as a baby toy. So far I have come up with:

plain cotton corduroy polar fleece fur/plush fabric

I could do with 2 other that feel different from the above, any suggestions?

Thanks

Lizzy

I made something like that for sister-in-law during Altz. Just rubbing it was a comfort to her. Anyhow, I'm thinking your 'tactile' needs a rough - can't think of anything just now that would be appropriate for a baby. Burlap, Osnaberg? (is that the name or close enough?) . . . maybe a scrap of work-pants weight denim? Polly

How about a seersucker, sometimes you can get stripped ones or ones with tufts. You could also go for a Jumbo cord.

And what about

- fake leather (I think it's called skye or so)

- knit fabric with the long silky hairs; you could knit a side from yarn like that and you could also knit a side from

- hemp string, the stuff that was used to tie parcels before synthetic fibres came up

What else? The off side of denim is quite rough, too. I can't think of anything else right now... At least nothing suitable for a baby.

Commercial variants have one side that crinkles - obviously some sort of crisp ish plastic backed fabric - or a layer of plastic beneath a covering fabric.

Something nobby, like one of those embroiderred fabrics. so there is a smoth and a bumpy feel. Or you could take a plain piece and put large french knots on it of various colors. susan
