Announcing....

The arrival of my first grandchild:

Angelic-Skye Vincenza Bartolone was born to Tanya Lynn McKinney and Antonio James Bartolone, approximately

11:29pm June 1, 2004 via c-section after 15 hours of labor. She was 8lbs 14 ozs and 20 inches long at birth. Nana Jill (father's mother) says she has lots of black hair, and has Nanu Mike's (father's father, ie me) long fingers. We hope to have some pictures in the next day or two, of Angelic-Skye with her greatgrandma on her father's side and her greatgrandpa on her mother's side, as well as her grandma on her mother's side and Nanu and Nana on her father's side. Grandma Shirlina (mother's mom) says she has very good lungs...

congrts Mike! The grandchildern are a big proud and enjoyment of grandparents. A friend of mine, she shouted first, oh oh,I'm granny now, I'did'nt expecteted it so soon..But now she shows the pictures everywhere and says that she experiences it like her own son. Nice for you to be a grandpappa.

Dang! That was supposed to be "Nothing you ever DO will be more fun." However, I guess it could also have been "...you ever sew..." ;-) Mind's in a million places just now. Sorry!

Congratulations - it's nice to see a grandad so excited.

Now about the doctor who let the new mum labour for 15 hours before deciding to a caesarean.... Anyway sounds like you got a good result.

is a perfect excuse to buy yards and meters of fabric and sew from now on! Sewing for a grandchild is the best way I know to spend time at the sewing machine.

Congratulations to all the family on this wonderful event.

Funny you should say that Jean...thats the reason I started sewing at all was for this particular grandchild. I figured I'd need at least a few months to get the hang of the basics before I started making stuff for her.

btw, my younger sister says that there is one magic word that makes sewing for babys MUCh easier... "VELCRO".

Good for you! Get the Kwik Sew's Sewing for Baby as a start. (Be sure it has the patterns in it!) This has basic patterns that you trace, and ideas for making changes. The sizing is good and dependable for fit.

Yeah, but I made the mistake of using it for the shoulders on a cute romper for our DGS at age 15 months. I thought to skip the usual buttons and buttonholes and be done sooner. He promptly discovered how to open the shoulders and drop the suit, cheerfully running from his trailing parent! But fur a young baby, it has definite advantages. The newer soft Velcro is nice for them.

Enjoy, and dream of taking her fabric shopping; that is lots of fun, too!

Yes, another vote for Kwik Sew! It has lots of good tips for making play clothing. I'm kinda sad that my oldest is almost a 4T and is nearly out of the Kwik Sew for Toddlers book. Baby clothes are fun, and so quick to do, but you have to sew fast or they'll out grow them before you're done! Have fun with the little one!

My smart little 11 month old cookie figured out velcro several months ago and is working on zippers, he's also figured out how to undo shoe laces. He's also been walking for just over a week and a half.
