"Stretching" The Limits Of On Topic...

Hey all... I have a stretchy question as well as some OT garble...

First- I know that Stretch Magic holds it's shape for only so long before it starts to flounder. Is there any other stretchy material that will hold it's shape longer that Stretch Magic? Especially when a piece is worn constantly. (shower not included)

I've even tried doubling up the SM, sadly, no go. I found this elastic bead cord that's about 1mm, but I haven't tried it yet.

As for the OT- I hate winter. I mean, I like snow and all, and really don't mind when it's cold, but it's been freakishly cold here lately. To make matters worse, the great outdoors is playing tricks with me. Earlier in the week it was gloomy and snowy. Then, on the two coldest days of the year, it's bright and sunny out! Unfair! Too cold to enjoy it. If my hands didn't try to fall off every time I walked outside, I'd be ok. Just 2 minutes outside and my fingers burn. Like Frostbite. I understand that it's a sign of Raynaud's, which is a form of RA. Great. My brother has it, and his hands stay purple all the time.

My grandfather isn't getting any better. The dr. says there's no lesions on his brain that would indicate Alzheimer's. I don't trust him. All this leads to a grumpy grandma who turns to me for relief. I just can't do it all the time, ya know? She had no one to go get her a few groceries the other day. My dad wouldn't do it for some reason. I couldn't get over there, especially not with my car. Think elephant on roller-skates and that's what it's like to drive my car. Good ol' rear-wheel drive, baby.

I've been miserably sick for the last week or so. I just can't shake whatever it is. Oh winter, why must you be so brutal at times?

But on the plus side, even though it's been butt chilling cold, I have been enjoying the sunshine from inside. And I've noticed that the days are getting longer. Yay!

Now, I've just got to get over the birthday hump at the end of this month and I'll be ok. I think I'm going to have a mid-life crisis early and on purpose! Maybe I'll get a tattoo across my butt that says "bury me this side up". HA!

Stay safe, warm and happy...(sniffle..cough)

Peace- Rachel

My experience is that it lasts about a year, which really isn't that bad. Like you, I haven't found anything that lasts a lot longer. I just restring the bracelet and be done with it.

Any possibility of getting him to a gerontologist, or someone who actually knows what they're doing? Unless technology has changed (entirely possible), the lesions from Alzheimers cannot be detected without an autopsy. Alzheimers' diagnoses are made through the consideration of symptoms, and the exclusion of other causes of dementia.

Call your local Council on Aging, to see about "day care" for Grandpa, respite care to keep Grandma sane, and ask about a shuttle or transportation service to get Grandma where she needs to go. In my town, all these services are available and are free (I think it might cost $1 for the shuttle).

As for the rear wheel drive thing, it's pretty easy to learn how to deal with snow. Go to the nearest snow covered parking lot (an empty one - office buildings on weekends are the best for this). Practice making the car skid, stop and do a bunch of donuts. Learn to make your car skid, and how to get out of that skid. It will take you maybe a half hour, and is time well spent. (It's also fun)

I know. Thank God.

Feel better. Spring will be here soon.

Not that I have been able to find. I think Stretch Magic is the best quality of this kind of cord.

I actually like Gossamer Floss better than stretch magic. For me, it has lasted longer and kept its shape better. (((((hugs))))) Feel better!

What winter you guys are having! Sounds like it's been hard on you all. Feel better soon, Rachel. I don't use stretch cord so I'm of no help!

Can't help you with the stretch question, but if it makes you feel any better, Raynaud's is NOT necessarily a symptom/sign of RA. You can have primary Raynaud's without having any other problems.
