Baby frock pattern wanted!

Baby needs frocks. I'll go 'shopping' in the stash, but I don't have many for newborns, and this'll be a tiddler. Expected birth weight at full term is about five and a half pounds. Anyone got a nice simple baby frock pattern? I can add frills and stuff if I want to, but I thought I'd keep the pattern dead simple and use really jazzy fabrics. I have some scorchers of quilty fabrics that I won't use in quilts.

When the universe hands you babies, make baby frocks! :D

I'm so glad you asked. I have tested maybe hundreds of baby clothes patterns and found a few really good ones. For the most, they are sized so big they would swallow a five and a half pound darling. Most of them that say 'Newborn' probably only had a gorilla in mind; one with wide shoulders and a huge neck. So. Here are two that do nicely so you can busy yourself embellishing instead of re-sizing. Preemie Daygowns and Bonnets by Ginger Snaps Designs

and, of course, nothing to stop you from moving the pieces over just a little when cutting and you want to increase the size. Careful there, Kate. Baby clothes making is addictive. Have big fun! Polly

I downloaded that tie one yesterday: I thought it would be a good starting point for several things... :) Cute, isn't it.

When second DD came early, and weighed just 4.75 pounds, my DMIL and I got busy creating a layette using 18" doll patterns. We made gowns, a bunting, and pretty dresses. Advantageously, my older DD later inherited the whole kit-and-kaboodle to use for her 18" doll, which made her love her new baby sister even more.

I also tore a goodly number of my cloth diapers in half, which worked for her in the first few months, later they became burp-cloths.

Sorry, I don't think I have any patterns for you, but this reminds me: I didn't get round to congratulate you to your new lem... great niece I mean. ;-) So - Congratulations! and a big HUG for you. See, not always rain, sometimes the sun shines, too. ;-) And, do you feel already wise and mature and all that? ;->
