Best way of using this fabric

Aug 31, 2003 2 Replies

I bought an old sari with some slight damage because I love the border that goes the entire length of the fabric on both selvages but I don't know the best way to use it. I was thinking a skirt but I prefer fuller skirts and try to avoid a lot of gathers around the hips, and those eliminate the first

2 ideas to use this that poped into my head (a pencil type skirt or pleating a length onto a waistband). Right now I am lening towards making a hankerchier skirt out of it, with probably 6 points so that the design would be going like this

around my legs.

Does anyone have any other ideas before I cut this lovely stuff?

I made a sari skirt with a lovely border and had deep pleats around the waist-no waistband. I guess it isn't fair to call them pleats. They were tucks, sewn on the inside 5-6 inches from the top. The skirt had a high waist and it was very slimming. There is a picture of it on the Happiest when sewing group, if you have access there. I don't know how to post it otherwise but will send you the picture if you e-mail me privately.
