Buttonholer question, before I chuck the dang thing our the window

All this talk of buttonholer recently got me BH crazy, ie I realy wanted one.

Checked the posts, checked all the info on ebay, just to make sure I got one that would fit.

My machine is low chank so I didn't get the first one I found that was for high shank, My machine is straight needle, so I didn't get the second one I found wchich was for slanted. But the third one I found was juuuuussst right. Not to hot, not to cold , not to hard , not to soft ( just thought I would throw in a Goldie locks ref for fun ), and it was complet, instructions and everything, even an extra cam.

So I bought it, cost me all of 1 dollar, you would think that nasty little old lady would give me a deal but ... :-)

Ok back to the serious stuff. Got home , got some scraps , set it buttonholer up, fitted perfectly. Treadded, loaded up the fabric, strated up.. slowly, IT WORKED !!!!! for half a button hole and then the needle broke.

Turns out its not only low/high straight/slanted I had to look for, but also needle position. RATS one loony down the crapper.

Ok so my machine seems to be the problem I have a japanese badge machine which no one has ever heard of. And it only has one need position :"Left"

So what do I do now ? does anyone know if there is an adjustment I can make to the buttonholer to ...shift it to the left a little ? is there an adapter out there somewhere ?

Any idea ? , at all ?

for those interested the buttonholer is a Singer model 160506 , it is black can comes in a forest green case. ( I know that the burgondy case is for slanted needles). The case is not one or those spaceship ones just a regular rectangular box with an attached lid.

Thanks

Jean P.

PS this is probably Karma for me hating the 401, rats again

Actually the low left needle is quit common. At one time Greist did make button hole attachments for those with low left needle position, but no longer. The box will say low left on it so there is hope on Ebay.

The singers are not left needle position machines.

I pretty much figured I would have to take the thing back, but I was still hoping there might be a :" dismatel buttonholer, reverse pcs z-43, reassemble making sure that pcs y-4 is set 14/37th of the way and not

13/64th of the way as previously set".

I checked ebay again and one of the sellers was bright enough to display the bottom of the Greist buttonholer box, on which is a list/diagram of all the variations in that particular series and which machine they are made for.

for me : #6 low shank , left needle position

So I guess I will have to keep an eye out for that one.

Thanks for the support

Jean
