I have purchased a few skirt patterns w/ darted waistlines and stable waistbands. I usually wear tops untucked and would prefer the comfort of an elastic waist in the skirt. I am thinking of just eliminating the darts and putting in an elastic band. However, if the skirt is straight I will still need a zip. Has anyone done this alteration and have a quick fix?

Make the waistband about 2 inches wider than your waist and add elastic the width of the waistband, gathering it just to your preference, and you will have a very subtly elasticized waistband that looks like a regular waistband, and you won't need to change anything else.
