Gosh, I must be a fashion leader! I went back to wearing dresses about four years ago. Especially long, mid-calf dresses, full dresses sometimes called "patio" dresses -- they're all-purpose and comfy. Comfort is a priority.

Gosh I can't remember the last time I wore a dress; I avoid doing so at all costs....give me Khakis and a t-shirt and I'm as comfortable as can be, even in summer :)

I am especially thrilled that maxi dresses are in again. I love long dresses. They are a tad impractical here in the snow (Norway) but that won't be for another few months.

From Texas to Norway! Culture shock!

High boots look great with maxi skirts, and you deserve to have someone walk in front of you, clearing the snow so that you can walk safely, keeping your skirts dry. ;-)

Reminds me (I grew up in blizzard country) of the time the bus driver pulled up at an unplowed stop during a storm that was already fairly deep. "Alright -- you guys with big feet get out first and make tracks for the ladies!"

Back when my husband and I first got married we went to a party at one of his sisters' house. I'd worn an ankle-length sun dress that apparently got right up another of my SIL's nose.

A friend of the family stopped by to show off his new motorcycle and offered to let my husband take it out for a ride. SIL commented snidely that, of course I wouldn't be able to go with him, being that I was wearing a dress and all.

I bent over, reached between my ankles, grabbbed the back hem of the skirt, pulled it up between my legs and tucked it under my belt, kilting it up safely out of harm's way while still exposing less leg than a pair of bermuda shorts. Hopped on the back of the bike and off we went.

To this day, I think she still holds it against me.

Thank you Mirjam, I am not sure where my home country is. I am American and grew up there. Got married and moved to Norway in 1991. Just spent 2 years in the US and now I am back "home" because this is where my house is and all my kids were born. Thank you for your kind thoughts. It was around 15 C and cloudy today, not exactly Texas weather!

Isn't it terrible that we can't exchange a few of the 98-degrees today in Houston for a few degrees of Norway's weather? And in addition to the heat, we have an ozone warning in effect that encouraging all seniors and small children should stay indoors. Emily

Hi Emily, I do miss the heat but we always want what we can't have. You would probably be cursing the cold after a few months. But the water here is so good, right from the tap. You don't even need ice. The forecast for the weekend is low 80's so it isn't that bad. Enjoy some heat for me (but stay inside!).

Pants at work, dresses on off time that is not when doing yard work. Christian, ie, not wearing the garments of a man. Wonder how the Amish women do farm work without worrying about it messing up the clothes and what ever else.

It's curious that in many parts of the world, the traditional dress for men resembles a dress. Even in the western world, priests wear cassocks, which look an awful lot like dresses, and other formal, traditional garb is a gown such as that worn by men and women in graduation ceremonies.

Not quite so common are pants for women, though salwar of the salwar kameez garb are pants.

As for the Christian reference, didn't Jesus wear a robe with no seams?

It's interesting how clothing and gender have adapted over the centuries.
