Goofy project

Last fall I bought four T-shirts on end-of-summer closeout from the Eddie Bauer outlet store near me, two were a gorgeous slate blue, two black. I didn't really care what the second size in each color was because I intended to use the body to cut new sleeves for the ones which did fit me.

Today, I removed the sleeves (not difficult if you know which threads of the 4-thread serging to pull) from the good blue shirt, used a sleeve as a pattern to cut new 2" longer sleeves from the body of the extra shirt, serged them in place, et voila! I have a V-neck T-shirt in a lovely color which fits the way *I* like...and for under $6.00 total. Can't buy decent knit yardage for that price. ;-) I'll get the black one done next week.

Great job! You especially couldn't buy knit yardage of the quality they use to make EB t-shirts. Those are always so very nice.

Very true, their fabric is wonderful, and I really like the color. Plus, all the tedious bits (V-neck, coverstitch hems, etc.) are already done! I'm going to wear it to the Tacoma Highland Games tomorrow, DGD is entered in the dance competitions.

What a T-riffic idea, Beverly!

Also, another Thank You for sharing the source for Malden throws. Last Christmas almost depleted my stash of fleece.

You're welcome. I can't believe that they sell the throws for so little compared to the cut yards fabric. And trust me, the quality is very good.

I would have never, never, never, NEVER, in a million years have thought of doing this.

It's brilliant and I'm speechless.

I give this idea to you with pleasure. ;-)

Exactly! These sleeves were about 4.5 inches cap-to-hem. Nasty length, neither fish nor foul. With the shirts on close-out (really, really, cheap) I just used the extra one as "fabric".

I also do not like "3/4" length sleeves (they always look to me like they shrank), but I don't let that stop me from buying a shirt I like, I just shorten them to my preferred length, just above my elbow.

I don't mind the 3/4 length sleeves, especially in the spring and fall. What I can't stand are those little tiny cap sleeves on perfectly fine shirts! That's ok in the junior sizes or for all my friends who have managed through hard work to keep in shape.

I, OTOH, have not kept in shape and even when I'm thinner than I am now, I need a little more sleeve, thankyouverymuch.

"Round" is a shape.
