How can I make a bustier pattern size 20 to fit a 22 24 bust

I have bought a bustier pattern multi sized 16, 18, 20 but iam a sized

24 bust and would like to make size 22 and 24 and 26 if possible, this is the biggest size pattern I could find in bustier tops and would really love to be able to make for myself and other large size ladies, does anyone know how easy this would be to do please, I can post pic of the pattern front designs if needed. Thank you

From a size 20 to a 22 or 24 is OK, but as you get bigger, you get less and less accurate...

Did you buy the pattern according to what you measure or according to the Ready To Wear dress size you usually take?

I usually take a size 24 bust so iam assuming the 16, 18 and 20 pattern will be a usual 16, 18, 20 sizing maybe im wrong and it will be bigger or smaller, but would like it to fit me if possible a normally size 24

48" bust size.

Never assume anything on a commercial pattern!! It will get you into trouble every time.

I suggest you take all the pattern pieces out of the envelope, iron them smooth, then measure the width of each piece at the bustline. Subtract the amount allowed for the seams, then add the total together and see how close it comes to your actual bust measurement. Let us know how much the difference is, and then perhaps we can help you.

Pattern sizes and RTW sizes are very different. You need a good set of measurements, and then you need to buy the pattern closest to that set of measurements. Onbly then can you start altering the pattern to get is closer toy your real figure.

This is the biggest size they do in this pattern I could find, I dont have the pattern in hand yet as ordered from the net, so will measure when I get it but do not expect it to be anywhere near my 48" bust size, but would dearly love it to fit me, I dont supose its just a case of adding a few inches all round?

No. You need to add length in the right places, too! And partly where you add what depends on your shape... You'll need to add more in the front than the back, for example, if you are busty rather than large all round. I used to measure 43" round the bust, but took a 38F bra because most if it was at the front! A very different shape from someone with the 'same' bust measurement who needs a AA bra!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but do you think a bustier in a size

24 - 48" bust - is a good idea?

Yes iam very busty at the front so will need to add more to the front, I think this will be trial and error here, making rough out of scrap until it fits. As for size 24 48" bust wearing bustiers, I have several shop bought ones that fit perfectly and look lovely, I was asking for technical problems not fashion ones.

It *is* a tecnical problem: Are you looking for something to wear with ot without supportive undies? In other words, is this really a bustier, or a corset with full support? If you are expectiong a bustier to give full support, you may well not get the result you really like.

Aha! Then you should be able to compare the pattern pieces to the existing garment and see if they match. If not, you should also be able to see where they need alteration.
