Not to mention the fact that nowadays almost every house has the parents' bedroom at one end and the children's bedrooms at the other. A baby monitor is no substitute for Mommy being right next door and available if a child gets sick in the night.
Prevailing wisdom in these parts is that nanny should attend to night nursery calls, after all it does not due for one's children to believe only Mother can take care of them. Oh we're very grand around here, with some households having two or more nannies. One works M-F day shift, another on weekends, and perhaps a back up for evenings and or when the family/children travel in case the others cannot. My heart goes out to some of the live in nannies who from what understands basically are on call 24/7.
Makes you wonder why some people even bothered having children at all.
Getting out is only half the problem, it's getting back in that can be tricky.
One of my brothers was notorious for missing curfew, one night the law was laid down that if he missed it again the "screen" doors would be locked, effectively locking him out. Late that night/early in the morning, was woken up by the sound of small rocks hitting my bedroom window. Climbed out of bed and peeped out the window to find brother dear standing down below whisper-shouting "come down an unlock the door". Told me that if I didn't he would "get" me, I told him feared the belt more than his threats, left him to his own devices and went back to bed! *LOL*
I love my home, but such things as the sink overlooking the den, instead of a window; the big walk-in closet in the bathroom and the garage outside the bedrooms, instead of by the kitchen is a little strange. Needless to say, it took some time to get used to all these modern things. Emily
