I always love hearing about archeologists finding ancient beads. They believe they may have found some of the world's oldest beads, made from shells:

I went to York last weekend and had a look at the gorgeous jet and amber beads there, and was fascinated by the need humans have to adorn themselves with beads.

I heard about this on NPR the other night. It was a very interesting segment. See, us beady people aren't weird at all!

It is lucky that they weren't thrown away at the excavation. Nobody back then may have been looking for beads and therefor less likely to "see" the beads. Plus, if they had any idea of the age of the site, they may have dismissed the existence of beads that far back as impossible and tossed them aside. :Eric
