keep zipper sliders and handles intact while washing & drying?

I have two fleece/ cotton combination coats that I really like because of their warmth, but I have had either the zipper sliders, handle, or both detach after washing drying. I have with great care managed to replace the sliders and handle, but I am wondering how I can wash and dry these to prevent zipper slider detachment? Also, should I keep them unzipped or zipped up, inside out or not? I know that if I zip up one of my poly filled puff jackets, it takes twice as long to dry. Thanks in advance.

I can honestly say that I have never, ever had a zipper pull to come off in the washer. But since you are having trouble with yours I'd just use a safety pin through the hole at the end of the pull and pin it to the jacket.

Zipped or unzipped is personal preference I would think.

Thanks. I have had the zipper slider handle detach from the one jacket, and the zipper slider detach from the other. Perhaps it was from flopping around in the washer. I'll try your technique by pinning to the jacket. How about while drying, keep it pinned also? Could I place either jacket into a 15x18" washing bag during washing/ drying just as an extra precaution?

This is something you might want to try. While the pull is on the jacket take a pair of wire pliers and g e n t l y squeeze that bottom portion to close that gap that seems to be where the pull is slipping out. I hope that makes sense. And for added insurance, yes, I would keep the zipper pull pinned to the jacket while it's tumbling in the dryer. The washing bag is a good idea, too.

Washed the jacket yesterday for the first time since replacing the zipper slider. The safety pin idea was a good one, the zipper didn't move at all either during wash or drying and still working fine. Thanks again.
