lingerie

Feb 24, 2004 9 Replies

After first having to admit I didn't pay much (ok, none) attention to the thread regarding various under garments, I decided I'd like to try to make a bra, myself. I tried going into the archives, but I didn't have much luck. And I've gone through the regular catalogs at Joanne's, but nothing there. So if you would, please, point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Sharon

Kwik-Sew makes a pattern.

sells it and some others by other companies.

If you already have a well-fitting bra, it will cost you something like $25 plus postage to send your bra to Lee-Ann Burgess in Australia, who will cut your bra apart on one side, create patterns to make a clone of it, and send it back to you with fabric choice and contruction information.

If you don't already have a well-fitting bra and your size is off the beaten path according to the patterns sold at sewsassy.com, there is always pattern-drafting software (my preference, of course, is Wild Ginger's Curves) to make it if you have an intimate friend to do the measuring needed.

Threads had an article online that is still available if you search for it.

Good luck! They are easy to make as long as you are careful to be precise.

for starters. They carry lingerie patternsincluding Elan, Kwik Sew, and Stretch N Sew. They have a nice selection offabrics and supplies needed to sew undergarments. (Not affiliated in anyway)

You might want to also try:

Lee Ann Burgess' site: the book/video combo are a bit pricey for me right now, but are on my short list of things to buy:

You do know that her prices are in Australian dollars, and the exchange rate is something like $1.00 AUD = $0.60 USD

Yeah, but I want the whole big kit, so even at 60%, my budget is tight this month (had a water line break and major repair/water bills). But I have it on the short list :-)

She doesn't send the whole bra kit overseas because of postage. So you just get your pattern cloned and she sends you all the info you need to buy the stuff to make your own. Now, if you wanted the videos and books... well, there are people over here who sell them that you could get them later.

Luckily, all that had to be dug up was the entire front yard. It's still slightly wrecked, but that isn't all bad as I was thinking of converting to desert landscaping anyway.

Sewage is a flat rate, so no worries there. However, even with the break, my bill cannot be correct! I got it today and the water authority is claiming I used 54,000 gallons last month (even after the break was repaired). My entire lot would have floated away with that kind of usage! I called them as soon as I discovered the break, so they already know. Problem is we are under drought restrictions and there is very little slack. But I will call Monday and try.

I could sure use the money for better things-like adding to my stash or getting the Burgess book/video set LOL!

Thanks for your advice! :-)
