Lining for chenille throw

I have made new back cushions for my DinL........very nice if I say so myself!!

I would love to make her a wonderful warm throw out of the left over fabric. It is upholstery weight chenille, and fairly heavy........so I want something luxurious to line it with so that it will look sumptuous.............

Velvet??

Would love to hear suggestions from all.

I wonder if velvet would creep because of the pile?

What about a heavy satin? Or flannel, if you can find one that looks rich, or a high-quality fleece?

No; velvet is way too heavy. My MIL made us a velvet bedspread backed with a lightweight bedspread, and sleeping under it was like having lightweight sandbags all over your bed.

I would do a crepe-back satin or Ambience lining or something.

Love that satin idea........and the fleece sounds wonderfully warm..........

Is just sewing around the edges enough or will I have to make some rows of stitching in the middle, too??

You need to sew it or tie it in the middle, or it will roll around and not stay in one piece.

Wool challis would be nice.

Or wool flannel, if you want it thicker.

A trick I often use is to wash a dry-clean only wool in hot water to make it fuzzy, but this also makes it very thick. Good for blankets, but a bit much for lining a chenille throw.

Dharma now offers some of their silks in black -- black satin makes a lovely lining.

If the chenille is cotton, linen or cotton fabric would be nicer. If poly, a lightweight poly "fleece" would be nice.

Pat, What about flannel backed satin?

would be really toasty and still oh so posh!! ;) I would do alittle bit of stitching in the middle too. That way it won't bunch and sliparound. Let me know if the whole throw is too heavy for your machine. Ihave an industrial straight stitch and since I'm just down the road, you'dbe more than welcome to come use it. :)Sharon

Flannel backed satin!!! What a great idea!!......Thanks for th offer of the machine. Very nice of you........I sewed 2 to 4 layers of the chenille on the cushions and nothing broke....so I am hoping I will be OK with this, too.

I will start looking as soon as I get through Thanksgiving for

16....... but I have all the sewing for that done......just need groceries!!
