Little red fairy - Ooh! Shiny!

Just before I went off to Germany, I had a little problem with this outfit... OK, I was trying to use the wrong tool for the job, but I'd managed in the past. So anyway -

The hot-fix crystals were also old, and I don't know if the glue deteriorates over time, but I couldn't get them to fix properly, and I melted a bit of the costume. Nylon Lycra dance/swimwear stuff. Aparantly, the hotfix crystals need a bit more welly when used on this stuff. Grr. No, GGRRRRRR!!! The Clover Mini Iron is a wonderful thing, and I used it successfully to do this sort of thing on different fabric in the past, but this was not happening this time.

I ordered the Kandi Kane Hot-Fix tool. It came with little packs of 100 crystals in several sizes, all the different sizes of fixing heads, a wire brush for cleaning it, a stand, and a nice pair of long tweezers. I ordered another 100 of the crystals in the size I was using, and waited...

Naturally, it arrived in the post the day I landed in Dusseldorf! :D So I had to wait until I got back to play with it.

I have just finished putting mad amounts of crystals in lots of different sizes on the scrunchie, the belt, the band that goes round the back and forms the shoulder straps, and up the legs of this little fairy outfit. It has come out seriously cute! And sparkly!

I now want to make wings with crystals on! Silly - she doesn't need wings! :D

I will take pix. Now I just have to assemble the replaced top section that I melted a tiny bit on (but it was RIGHT IN THE FRONT - natch!).

I only managed to burn two fingers and almost hot-fixed a crystal to my thumbnail. Not bad, really.

I ordered my Kandi-Kane tool from Gemmini Diamante: >

was the best price, came the next day, came with generous extras, and the man on the phone was extremely helpful. I probably have vast numbers of crystals to fix to a bonkers wedding dress next year, so this is money well spent. Oooh, shiny... ;)

Not exactly a fairy - just the lass is so little and slight that she's fairy-like. The straps cross over at the front and meet in a V at the back. Here's the top before it got encrusted with crystals:
