Look who moved into my neighborhood not an ad

We recently got a new neighbor in our area. A quilt fabric store. We haven't had a fabric store of any kind here for about 20 years. DH and I took a ride over to see the place yesterday. The fabrics are wonderful. I hope the store does well. If you would like to take a pick at it, go to

I'm jumping for joy to have it here. On another note I went back to my sewing machine this week. The three of them greeted me with open arms and said they were glad to be back working. I did a lot of happy dancing. Juno

It's a beautiful shop. I don't quilt either but love the fabrics. Some of them make great tops and summer clothes. They are also great for dresses for little girls. I'm hoping he'll give a class in Landscape quilting. That fascinates me. It feels so good to be able to do things. I even scrubbed my very large kitchen floor yesterday with a long handle scrub brush. Then DH went over it to rinse with the mop. Can't believe I enjoyed scrubbing but I did. Juno

It is just so nice to have a real fabric store and so close to home. It's only about 2 miles from my house. The only other place around is TSWLTH and that's 15 miles from my house. Juno

I don't quilt either, but there are a couple quilting stores around Houston, though not as close as the one is to your home. I love the quilt fabrics for DGD's clothing and also for me. I like shifts, loose caftans, etc for wearing in the house. Also, cottons are perfect for nightwear. I am happy to hear you are well enough to do your floors. Keep up your exercises. Emily

Two of DH's best-looking shirts (brag, brag) are made of very small plaids bought at such a shop. I often make a matching shirt for one of the DGKs from the scraps.

Restaurants galore around here. We have the Culinary Institute with everything from a sandwich shop, no reservations needed, to a fine expensive French restaurant (reservations needed.) Lots of small places, diners, and a very friendly local place with great sandwiches, wraps and quiche. That place also sells a lot of handmade jewelry and some adorable handmade dolls. People in Hyde Park never go hungry. We also have a food market that has a great hot and cold bar with all kinds of goodies. You can eat in or take out there. DH and I like to pick up something for lunch in that place and picnic at the Vanderbilt Estate. Juno

Problem with quilt stores is that its usually prints, and the hand is hardened as opposed to woven colors. Of course, I'm usually make a shirt out of it. Perhaps the hand washes out after a while, but they don't seem to breathe as well as a woven color fabric.
