That's going to be classically gorgeous. What did the bride finally choose for the over-top part? Impatiently awaiting more pics...

Silk organza embroidered with wavy lines of tiny roses. I'm going to embellish those with sequins and seed beads!

The edge will be as narrow a bias strip as I can sew on there!

How about doing a French binding, using the narrow rolled edge on the serger for the first pass, and setting it to within 1/4" of the fold, then press, turn, and stitch in the ditch? You may be able to get the finished binding down to about 1/8". Even narrower if you hand stitch the final stage.

I shall do some research and testing, but the bulk of the embroidery may be a sticking point. And we have a week! Delivery next weekend... But most of the gown itself will be done by this evening.

Ah, I didn't know the extant embroidery was an issue. Maybe a narrow satin stitch with rayon embroidery thread? Or a rolled hem using the serger and specialty thread in the loopers?

Or, you are going to have that new embroidery machine soon, does it have an attachment similar to the Singer Continuous Embroidery Frame:

could create a custom border at the edge. ;-)

I don't think so... Embroidered silk organza with VERY lumpy embroidery! it's really pretty, but the little flowers are almost stump work! I'm aiming for a bias bound edge about 1/4" wide.

That will be lots of fun for the future, but the machine won't be here until too late. As it's a loan machine, I can't nag for a quick delivery...

I put the bodice together last night, and the skirt is about to be sewn onto it. I'm bagging the hem, but will have to leave the back seam open for now as it needs a concealed zip in it and I don't want to rush that for the fitting. As my lovely Lily is sidelined for now (badly in need of a service), I may have to use the Bernina for the zip, and I haven't done a concealed zip with a narrow foot in ages... I could do it on the Optima, but, like the Bernina, it has limited needle positions. Damn, you do get used to these refinements! ;) I am spoiled by 26 needle positions! 'Nina only has five, and the Optima only 3, though it DOES take the big Husqvarna zip foot.

The (I hope!) finle top toile is now also complete! Yay!

Sounds like a very good solution.

I think you will really enjoy the embroidery machine, I wish I had invested in one years ago. I play with it almost more than with my SMs.

Best wishes, nothing serious I hope!

The 401a has infinite needle positions. I can move it to exactly where I want it in order to topstitch, edgestitch, etc. ;-)

Don't forget to take lots of pictures, please!
