Off the top of my head, what about remote control holders that slip over the end of an armchair arm? A rectangle of fabric with edges neatened up and a small pocket of rice on one end for a counter weight and a small pocket large enough to hold your various remote controls.

This idea could also be amended for small hand sewing or knitting items. My MIL has a row of small pockets on one end of hers for seam ripper, tape measure, thread cutter and tailors chalk or pencil.

I'm currently making hand towel holders for the kitchen. Each holder is in the shape of an animal, my pattern has cow and pig, with the hand or tea towel made up into a pinafore dress that can be removed and washed without damaging the cow's head. My DD loves my mother's so much I've now got a list happening. I'll post photos soon.
