Some were so-so, some not so bad. No real stunners, and no serious faux pas either. Not so much to argue about as in previous years. I did wonder at some of their grading. What was so stunning about the A grades, and so different about the C's and D's? The odd frock too long, or crumpled, but nothing we couldn't fix... ;)

Going through the photos, I missed Drew Barrymore; how, I have no idea. Her outfit is certainly better-looking than many others.

Of all the stars on the sites posted, I only recognized 7-names of stars and only 1-2 of the designers. I guess I'm out of touch on today's TV.

I agree with you, Beverly, on the other two, both should have rated a F-.

the A

too long,

I am happy to read your comment regarding the grading.

Myself, as a rank amateur ... I had similar thoughts about variety of grading.

Some *F* grades seemed obvious , many others grades did not. I wish there were more comments on how the grading was derived.

Like how did Kyra Sedgwick get a D ? maybe the color was not as flattering for her but the dress was not that bad ? was it ?

Tina Fey's dress grade might have been a little lower ? maybe the photo did not do the dress justice but it seemed a bit ho-hum, old for her and unflattering

How does the Lynn Sigler dress get an A+ ? the gold is pretty but that neck line and all that drape just seemed like serious overkill, i think that draped fabric could have been reduced in quantity by about %75 and raised about 1 foot ( 30 cm) for the A+ (ok maybe just 6" (15 cm) ) i mean that big saggy fabric wad just looked so heavy and seemed to pull my eyes down down down to her mid-section

I don't think the dress for Chloe Seigny deserved a C , maybe it was her lack of hair doo

The dress on the lady behind Neil Patrick-Harris could get an A (oh, Perrey Reeves, ok)

Kate Walsh's dress seemed to have an undescribable problem like it was fluffed incorrectly or tucked somewhere it should not have been ?

Padmas Lakshmi's dress a D ? was that just for the red flowers ? i would have given it a C mainly because the clingy fit material seemed to over accentuate her shape, as lovely as it might be ... it was lacking subtlety

I didn't think Chandra Wilson's dress deserved a C- ( that is almost a D) ? maybe a B- but was it a C- ? why ?

Not sure Glenn Closes's dress deserved a D ? maybe not the best dress for her and the sunglasses might have detracted from the dress more.

Not sure there was any fixing for Moss' dress

The guys all got the right grades even Cryer's D.

IMHO and $0.02

I'm so glad you reminded me of John Cryer's outfit. Raise your hand and wave it madly in the air if you remember the movie "Pretty in Pink." I thought the outfit was an homage to Duckie from Pretty in Pink. That was his first major role, wasn't it? Possibly because John Hughes passed recently?

When I saw that outfit, all I could think was "It's Duckie!" And I really wanted them to pan down so I could see if he had on those awful white shoes. LOL

Heh heh heh Thanks Beverly. I love these discussions. And it's funny how often we are all in agreement. How 'bout that red dress with the ruching and the *ahem* bust accentuation. That was just awful.

Sharon, I can't wave, :>( because I never saw that movie and am not familiar with John Cryer. I must look it up and see what it was all about.

I was thinking that quite a few of those dresses would do a bang-up job of cleaning my hardwood floors. *Sweep, sweep*

I do as well, I remember fondly the summer of the Swedish(?) and Spanish(?) royal weddings. One was spectacular, the other...not so much.

One wonders of the poor girl ever tried it on before appearing in public. I could easily understand being convinced by an artist's rendition, but to actually put that hideous thing on and strut out in public? Makes on wonder about the sanity or intelligence of the starlet.

Don't you think the entire train thing has been done to death? I mean, c'mon, these aren't exactly bridal gowns which can be bustled in order to facilitate movement.

I like the classic, classy get-ups myself, but it seems to me that the critics/reviewers/scorers quite often seem to be more taken with how much of a feature can we make the bust and/or how likely is there to be a "wardrobe malfunction".

Then again you wonder if the designers create some of the garments purposely to see if somebody is dumb enough to wear them in public.

It was a cute movie.

Came out when Iwas in high school. John Cryer is on that show Two and a Half Men withCharlie Sheen. (I don't watch the show; it's pretty goofy.) In Pretty inPink, his character was the total goofball, oddman out type. He dressedoddly. (even for the mid-1980's he dressed oddly.)That "tux" he wore for theemmys......

just classic "Duckie." Although, now that I look again, he is wearingblack shoes. Duckie wore these horrible, nearly worn out, once-white shoesthrough most of the movie. Sharon

I think most of those dresses are stupid, but obviously nobody at the awards asked me my opinion. I'm just glad that those kinds of affairs and outfits aren't part of my life. None of it rings my chimes.

Aw, c'mon, Joanne!!! You know you wear an evening gown every day. Especially when it's 'clean the bathroom' day. I know you do, just admit it!!!

Another total mess. ("A" my left foot.) The bodice doesn't fit well. The> rest of it looks like it involved her grandmother's sheer curtains off the> picture window and some kitchen twine. But that hem!!!! It's a mess. > It's like it's from the Little Rascals "We can put on a show in my> backyard" collection. yeesh. My personal guess is that the shoes this year were so uncomfortable they took 'em off and let the hems cover the bare feet. You bet, Sharon. Still wearing the ones I wore to Rainbow and high school dances. Yew betcha. I didn't like 'em even then.

I thought the same thing Kay. Some quotes on the photos mentioned shoes, but I didn't see any of the women's.
