Halloween Costumes

Little Miss M came over today to help make a Little Red Riding Hood costume. She's 7 and never used a sewing machine before. I had cut out the Cape for her ahead of time and she did all the seams and pressing. I attached the hod for her and ran quilt binding around all the outside edges. I have never seen a child her age use a sewing machine so well the first time. I gave her lots of scraps to sew, on her own, while I was pressing the binding and cutting out her brother's Superman Cape. I'll put up pictures next week. Her brother, Little Mr M wanted to know if his poppa knows how to sew I told him no, He said I think you better teach him how. Juno

That's wonderful!!! You can tell her I'm really proud of her too. And yeah, let's get Poppa in the sewing room too. If you can manage to get him hooked on sewing, he won't ever complain about going to the fabric store with you. ;) LOL

Well spoken for a young man!

I'm sure he will want to learn himself soon.

She was very pleased with her accomplishment. Poppa will never try the sewing machine. It's a power tool and he isn't a power tool person. No way, no how.lol :) Juno

I was very pleased with what she did. She picks up everything and anything very quickly. She's great with her hands. I was teaching her how to make earrings one day and she ended up teaching me. Juno

I have no doubt of that ! He's as quick at learning as his sister. Another couple of years and he'll be sitting alongside of her. Juno

How about a treadle or handcrank machine? Both are "people-powered."

Juno, fantastic job, snaring yet another future sewist or two. I was amazed at the work DGD achieved making her Halloween costume a couple of years ago:

well as her Highland Dance Jig costume last year:

Riding Hood

had cut out

pressing. I

the outside

so well

while I

Superman Cape.

wanted to know

you better

too. And yeah,

get him

fabric store

Now that is the truth.

I had to rein myself on fabric store visits. The ladies knew me, my schedule, my projects. I would burn an hour easy just looking for ideas and stash deals.

I kept the pattern very simple for her. I wanted this to be an easy project with a minimum of stress. She wants to make a skirt next. I didn't take pictures while she was working so as not to distract her. Juno
