Mistress Kate -

I have to ask...when you are done wiht the waistcoats, do you do any topstitching around armholes or anything? I think the bits that I just finished for DH and DS look fine, but DH mentioned that he thought they might move around if they weren't topstitched. I am afraid that they will look a little off if I do this.

Will post pictures later today after I get some of the housework finished.

It depends... Casual ones like denim, yes, I do. Formal ones in silks and velvet, no. But if you think you'll get the lining creeping to the outside, you could understitch on the inside by hand so that it holds the lining to the seam allowance without it showing on the outside. The only place I regularly topstitch on a formal waistcoat is round the back of the neck for strength. The buttons and buttonholes down the front should hold that bit in place, so the only real problem areas are the front to the top of the buttonholes, and the front hem area.

The other trick to help stop creep is to stitch in the ditch down the shoulder and side seams. Use a fine thread like a machine embroidery thread, and be VERY careful not to catch the velvet pile, especially on the shoulders.

Thanks bunches!! Hubby tried his on last night and wore it around for a while..moving arms and such to see if the layers slipped or not. NO movement out of the ordinary detected, so I won't bother with any top-stitching or anything. Pictures will be uploaded in a few minutes.
