Selvedge sheets

Where have you looked for these and why do you want selvedge edge sheets?

I had to look-up what selvedge is ..

Out of curiosity, I checked a couple of " quality bedding " web sites and no selvedge at all .. John T.

Selvage edge sheets are cheap sheets. A quality manufacturer would not use the selvage edge in their bedding. You don't see selvage edges in clothing and there's a good reason for that. Opt for a better quality sheet.

The selvages are tuck selvages, not the real thing, but they are quite well done and you have to know what to look for to tell. The sevages are plenty wide, and didn't pucker or ruffle when washed.

But Dharma is probably getting wide muslin from a different factory by now. Pure-cotton fabric seems to be rather intermittent in supply.

It's cheaper to buy 108" fabric and use it crossways, settling for half-inch hems on the sides.

When I was a kid I made gathered skirts using the selvedge edge at the hem to avoid the nuisance of turning the cut edge under as well as the nuisance of having to cut it. I was always the 'quick and dirty' type of seamstress-analog.

I would have NOT hemmed the skirt if I could have gotten away with it!

Sometimes my grandma would rip stuff out and re-sew it while I was at school. My mom told me about that after Grandma died.
