Serger not on "Strike" anymore!

I couldn't figure out what was wrong with my serger after it had gone for a timing adjustment. I was planning to take it back then had to pack up and move (again - one more move and thats it)

Just the other day I decided to try it again.

A bit of oil, new needles and thread..... It worked! It must have been on strike.

I am going to use it on my next project, a paint shirt for DD for art class (she is in grade one). I am going to print off on transfer paper some butterfly's I designed on Adobe Illustrator and make it pretty for her. Can't wait to get started. I have the fabric and transfer paper, just not enough white serger cones so I have to go shopping.

I didn't know about changing the needles so often, thanks. I will have to find somewhere that sells them because I am still on the ones that came with it.

I am not even sure how often to oil it to be honest.

Look in the manual! :) I do mine more often than suggested because of the volume I shove through them. I also use different types of needles in different fabrics: stretch for Lycra, knit for knits/jersey/polar fleece, universals for woven, and occasionally microtex for microfibres and waterproofed things. If you just match the needles in both sewing machine and serger to fabric type, your stitching will be much nicer.
