sewing in a waistband

I want to make the tulip skirt again (the same skirt I wanted to hem higher), and have a question about sewing in the waistband. The instructions say to apply interfacing to the right side of the skirt, which makes no sense to me. On the skirt that I just completed, I improvised and put the interfacing onto the wrong side, which looks fine from the right side, but unfinished from the inside. Not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to have the inside look just as good as the outside!

I was also looking through some other skirt patterns that I have, and they all seem to have the same directions for the waistband. So I'm hoping someone can explain how to put it in correctly =)

facing to inside, turning under and slip stitching centre bacedges; press. Pin facing in place, placing pins on outside. Onoutside, sttich in the ditch or groove of yoke seam bw zipperstitching.

I hope this isnt too confusing...reading it over, it seems it to me =O

Any help would be so greatly appreciated! =)

Me neither! Which pattern is this?

Is this the wrong side of the skirt, or the wrong side of the skirt facing

- in which case it should be hidden when the facing is applied to the skirt.

That's OK - makes perfect sense: you then flip it to the inside, so the interfacing is hidden between the two layers of cloth.

Stitching in the ditch means stitching along the seam line, so the stitches are hidden: do it slowly. I do it quite a bit, but the only examples on my web site at present are on quilts. Still, if you take a look, it'll give you an idea.

Also take a look at the glossary of sewing terms on my site: it isn't fully comprehensive, but it's getting there! EVENTUALLY (if I ever get clear of the bridesmaid jungle!) there will be more lessons on stuff like this.

I couldn't get to see your pix as the site said access was denied: can you make them viewer friendly, and I'll have another try.

I think that most of the skirt patterns I've seen have you apply the waist band just like in the instructions say with the wrong side of the waistband first sewed to the right side of the skirt; because first you sew the bottom edge of the waistband to the top of the skirt waistline and then you like pick up the "top" located at the bottom -of the waistband and fold it over to the inside and sew the "top" of the waistband to the inside of the skirt. When you do that, the waistband is folded over the top exposing the right side of the waistband attached to the right side of the skirt.

I hope this helps you. It's kind of hard to visualize things in text without pictures.
