Tidy Up

Well I have procrastinated long enough I have finished my mornings rub down of statues in the Marble workshop, drunk a whole pot of tea, and read this group. I must begin the big Tidy of the sewing area.

I am hoping a really big spring clean will inspire me to start with a spring inspired range of dresses!! I also have to think up ideas for my items but to do with Bee's as one of my big Spring sales points has theme of bee's for this year. Reversible aprons & dresses are a given. I'm rolling the idea of bumble bee tutu's around in my head. I have some wonderful brown and yellow stripe t-shirt fabric in the stash but I only have about 2metres, how to stretch it ( pardon the pun) to get the maximum amount of sale-able items out of it, that's the dilemma!

Procrastination must stop I'm off to make a start honestly!!! Claire in Montreal FRANCE

I can help with the bees. You take a scrap of white silk organza, fuse it to another scrap of the same. When cool, you cut out bee wings. By just tacking the wings to the bee, you have wings in flight. For the bee bodies, you make both black chenille strips and also bold yellow. And eyes. Got to have big eyes. I don't remember when I had my own bee attack. Must have been a crib quilt years ago. I do remember that the bee wings were cute but not sturdy enough for someone apt to chew their quilt. Polly

Betsey, Thank you, those hats were made from the brown & yellow striped jersey I am bemoaning my lack of. I have used that bee appliqué motif on several hats and dresses. Here is a link to a face book picture of the smallest bee dress I did this winter.

made it especially because I found the bee tights in a closing down sale of a very chic children's boutique and ended up re-cutting my pattern down to a 3 month old size so that it went with the tiny tights it's the smallest dress I have ever done.

50% of the sewing space is clear now I will go back to it tomorrow when my Dyson has got over it's trauma!! Claire in Montreal FRANCE

Polly, Thank you for the heads up on making bee body fabric, that hadn't occurred to me . If I can get some black and yellow jersey I can make some baby bodies with bee wings!!! Just let me find some t-shirt jersey please.

I will let you know how I get on.

Claire,

I made my son a bee mobile last year. I took some yellow and some black poly-cotton, cut it into strips, serged the strips together alternately - bingo you have bee fabric. Then I cut it up into squares, sewed the square into a tube, ran a gathering thread round each end, stuffed the tube with soft toy filling, pulled up the threads and finished each end neatly. On one end I used a black marker to draw a smiley face. I added net curtain spray starched wings to my

6 bees, attached each bee to strong thread and suspended them from a simple wire frame. Worked really well apart from the fact all the wings have flopped - you will need to find an alternative wing method so they stay upright and cute.

The prices are excellent, and the e-mail specials are fantastic!

I once purchased several dragon designs (Hi, Anna!). One of the designs was lacking one of its 'leg-flames.' I e-mailed "Deb" at emblibrary.com about the error. The design was promptly edited, and she provided me with a link to the corrected file. Very good service!

Thank you Beverly, yes I have Mum thinking about bees, Mum & dad moved into their new house 4km up the road from us only 2 weeks ago. Great news for sewing collaborations, but she hasn't had chance to unpack her craft room yet. She has a whole massive space for a craft room over the top of the garage, all it wants is a window and some insulation!!!

I know she has a couple of embroidery sites she likes I will try to get her to tell me so that I can share with you.

Woo hoo! How terrific to have her nearby, it will make working together so much easier.

Thanks, I am always on the lookout for new sites.

By the way, my family loved the marble owls. :-)

I have winkled those sites out of Mum, although they may already be familiar to you Beverly, anyway here are some she likes & uses.
